16 EASY Ways to Celebrate New Year’s Eve With Kids

It’s one of my favorite traditions. I love spending the day making LOTS of appetizers, finger-foods and desserts. We play board games, video games, have a little photo booth and enjoy spending time together. Over the years I’ve compiled some of my favorite New Year’s Eve traditions, activities, food and ideas and I thought I would share it with you! Here are a few. I will share a few more tomorrow too!

One of the best part about spending New Year’s Eve at home with the family are recording the fun times. I usually make a simple photo backdrop where we can use our phones to snap a few photos. Here is an easy one with paper stars.

Everything seems a little more festive with a pretty table to display all of that delicious food! I always enjoy fresh greenery. This is an idea where I used some basic Ikea pieces and showed how to use them throughout the holidays – Thanksgiving, Christmas AND New Years. The linens and pieces are neutral so you can really use them all year long!

New Year’s Eve Tablescape 

7-Layer Dip is probably our favorite dip. Of course we love the traditional Mexican 7-layer dip, but a few years ago I experimented with an Italian dip using pesto, artichoke hearts, tomatoes and cheese and it has become one of our favorites. And everything is cuter when you make smaller sizes so we put them in glasses. To make things even EASIER use plastic, clear cups which are disposable!

Party hats are a MUST for New Year’s Eve. This is a fun idea where your guests can use chalkboard pens to write their own message on their hat. Ring in the new year with your favorite saying and record the fun in your easy photo booth.

My grandma loved baking and she was a wonderful cook! One of my favorite memories growing up was walking into her home and smelling butter and onions on the stove as she made piergois. It’s our ALWAYS traditional New Year’s Eve party food.

I had fun this year with my Instant Pot. I love how FAST you can create almost any type of food. This is a hearty buffalo chicken dip. It’s creamy, cheesy and spicy – the perfect combination in my opinion. And the best part is how easy it is to create. I even used frozen chicken breasts in this recipe and it still was done in under a half an hour.

One of the best parts of celebrating New Year’s Eve is thinking back on the past year and looking ahead. I think it’s a great tradition with kids to help them think of achievable resolutions to work on in the coming year. This is a fun way to do it!

We are HUGE Spider-Man fans so we knew we had to do something special to celebrate the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home movie with Tom Holland!! It’s available NOW on Blu-ray and Digital! We created the most AWESOME Spider-Man: No Way Home Family Movie Night!!

Why We Love Spider-Man: No Way Home

There are so many reasons we love the new Spider-Man: No Way Home movie. First of all, Tom Holland! He’s so perfect in the role of Peter Parker. The humor and personality he brings to the role is amazing. We loved how all three Peter Parkers were in the movie and we loved how they all could relate to each other in the silliest ways. It was really fun to see all of the villains from all three movies in the movie together too! This movie sparked a conversation about if we would’ve made the same life-altering decision Peter Parker made.

Movie Night Inspired By Spider-Man: No Way Home

We had so much fun preparing for our movie night. We are sharing the easy ways you can make a movie night for your family and watch Spider-Man: No Way Home at YOUR house!

Spidey Mask Pizzas

Our main course are yummy pizzas in the shape of Spidey masks! They are super easy to make and your kids will love creating Spidey masks! Each of the three Spideys in the movie have different shaped masks so you can choose which Spider-Man you want to model your pizza after!

• Tom Holland’s Spider-Man character’s eyes have bolder outlines.
• Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man has eyes that are more triangular, meet at right angles.
• Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man has rounder and larger eyes.

We based our pizzas on Tom Holland’s character, but make YOUR pizza with whichever Spider-Man character you like best! Above is a picture showing the different Spider-Man masks!

How to Make Spidey Mask Pizzas:

Ingredients: Store-bought pizza dough, pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese, sliced olives, pepperoni slices, balsamic glaze.

• We used store-bought pizza dough, but you can make your own if you want. Lay the pizza dough out on a parchment-lined cookie sheet. Use a knife to cut out a face-shape in the pizza dough. The face is wider at the top and narrows down at the chin.
• Remove the extra dough and add sauce to the pizza dough.
• Top the sauce with a layer of mozzarella cheese.
• Add pepperoni across the entire mask.
• Outline the eyes with sliced olives. Then fill in the eyes with mozzarella cheese.
• Cook dough according to dough directions. Ours was 425-degrees for 14 minutes.
• Take pizzas out when edges start to brown.
• Add webbing to the mask by drawing webs with balsamic glaze after the pizza is cooked.
• Serve and enjoy!!!
• ** For vegetarians, you can make a spider-web pizza by making a cheese pizza and drawing a web over the top with balsamic glaze after it is cooked.

Spider-Man Themed Frozen Drinks

We took the red and blue colors from the movie and made simple frozen drinks. These are even easier to make because all you do is use store-bought red and blue frozen popsicles. Just take the sticks out of the red popsicles, put the frozen popsicles in a blender and blend. Then pour the red popsicle mixture into glasses. Do the same thing with the blue popsicles. Layer the blue popsicle liquid over the red and pop them into the freezer to set for 15 minutes.

Spider Web Snack Mix

We love a good snack mix for movie time! Making a spider web snack mix is so easy! Here’s how to do it:

Spider Web Snack Mix Ingredients: 2 cups popped popcorn, 2 cups honeycomb cereal, 2 cups white chocolate-covered pretzels, 1 cup white chocolate chips, 1 cup red and blue candy-coated chocolate candies. Red or black pull-apart licorice for spider web (optional).

Spider Web Snack Mix Directions:

• Pour popcorn, honeycomb cereal, white chocolate pretzels into a large bowl.
• Melt white chocolate chips in the microwave by putting them in a microwave-safe bowl and microwaving it on half power for 30-second increments until the chocolate is melted, stirring in between increments.
• Pour the white chocolate over the popcorn mixture and mix.
• Fold in blue and red chocolate candies.
• Pour mixture onto a parchment-lined cookie sheet to cool. After 15 minutes put the snack mix into a medium-sized bowl.
• Make a spider web out of pull-apart licorice ropes. (optional)

How to Create an Easy Snowball Party

Creating a memorable Snow Ball Party and movie night doesn’t have to be hard or time consuming. Here are some ways to create an easy snowball party and movie night with your family!

Make a Abominable White Dessert Charcuterie Board

Buy white and light colored candy, chocolate and cookies. Use a large wood Cutting board or ceramic tray. Lay the bigger items on the board first, spaced out at the edges of the board. Then fill the spaces in with smaller candy and dessert items.

Create Everest Cupcakes

Take store-bought cupcakes, add sprinkles or cinnamon to the top. Then print out these free Everest Cupcake Toppers.

Printable Abominable Cupcake Toppers

Cut the toppers out and tape them onto toothpicks or paper straws. cut in half.

Serve Snowball Cookies

Take store-bought donut holes, pile them into a pyramid shape. Start at the bottom by laying out 9-12 donut holes, then layer donut holes on top of he first layer until you have a tree shape.

Candy Cane Snow Ball Meringue Cookies

Serve peppermint meringue cookies. You can buy these at the store or make them at home. Pile them into a pyramid shape and place on a cake stand.

Buy foam snowflakes and tape them onto a wall. Then place your snowball food on a table and add chalkboard tags with the names of your abominable snow ball party food!

Halloween Candy Station Game with Free Printable Labels

I am always looking for something new to create for Halloween. We love Halloween parties and games, so when I saw this spinning game board I knew it would be fun for a Halloween party.

Neighborhood Trick-or-Treat Candy Station

We recently moved into a new neighborhood and haven’t met much of the neighbors yet. So I thought having an interactive trick-or-treat candy station might be a fun way to interact with the families around us!

Halloween Wheel Game

I spotted this Halloween Wheel Game at Oriental Trading. It was perfect for my interactive candy game idea. I ordered it and it requires no set up. There are just two feet with slots and you set the game into notches in the feet and it stands up by itself.

Order Candy

I love ordering candy that other houses might not hand out. I have discovered that Oriental Trading Company has an amazing assortment of unique candy. They have realistic worms, eyeballs and other candy like that. I decided I wanted to order candy in an orange, white and black color scheme.

Find Containers

You can find clear containers at almost any store. The canisters with lids are ones that come in a set of three and are also from Oriental Trading Company.

Print off Candy Station Labels

I created some simple labels that coordinate with the spinning wheel game. There are 12 slots on the game that trick-or-treaters can land on, so I create 12 labels for the candy jars.

Include Non-Candy Prizes

Some kids have allergies and can’t eat some types of candy, or they don’t want sweets. I ordered some mini bubble containers that kids can grab. It’s nice to have something for everyone at the station.

Set Up the Candy Game Station

I laid a plastic table cloth over a bench in our entryway for the game, but you can set it up outside or inside your home. You just need a table or bench to put the game and candy on that’s sturdy. Enjoy the fun!!

Halloween Cauldron Mini Cakes with Hidden Candy Filling

Halloween Cauldron Cake

A couple of years ago I threw a really fun and colorful Halloween monster party. The highlight treat of the party was a giant cauldron cake that I created with a secret candy filling inside. It was so good. The kids loved slicing into it and finding candy. I thought it would be fun to create individual mini versions of that cake this year.

Bundt Cake Mold

To make the mini bundt cakes all you need is a bunt pan and cake mix. Just mix the cake mix up and pour it into the molds. Then drizzle warm frosting over the top of the cakes once they are done.

Store Bought Cake Hack

TO make things even easier you can grab store-bought mini bundt cakes and do a quick hack to make them seem homemade. It’s so easy!

Make Cauldron Cake Tops

To hide the candy inside the cakes you simply make a chocolate top. Put chocolate chips in a bowl, microwave it on low heat and stir until the chocolate melts. Then Spread a circle of the melted chocolate on parchment paper and let the chocolate cool. Peel the chocolate circles off and you have cake tops!

Enlarge the Bundt Cake Holes

Take a spoon and scoop out the middle of the bundt cakes. Then fill the openings with whatever candy you want!

Add a Peep Ghost to the Top of the Cake

Once the chocolate top is on top of each of the cakes, add a dab of melted chocolate and place a ghost peep on top of each mini cauldron cupcake! It’s that easy!

Personal the Candy to Each Guest

You can also personalize the candy inside each cauldron cupcake. Each guest will be so surprised to see their favorite treats inside!

Throw a Summertime Pancake Party!

Summertime is the perfect time to throw a pancake party! Invite the neighborhood kids for a fun morning eating the most delicious lemon ricotta pancakes. It’s the perfect way to celebrate summer!

Cook Pancakes Outside on a Griddle

We invited some special friends over the other morning and had an awesome time serving pancakes outside on our griddle and being silly.

We broke out of new Blackstone 36″ Griddle Cooking Station – it is the ultimate way to cook outdoors. My husband cant wait to take it camping. it’s really cool because it has fold-able legs so we can put it in the back of the car for our camping trip.

You can cook basically anything on the griddle – eggs, pancakes, meats, veggies. We are actually using it on Father’s Day for a big family brunch to make a GIANT batch of hash browns and bacon – yum! And it would be PERFECT to cook up pancakes for a neighborhood Fourth of July breakfast. I also love that you can take the griddle off for EASY cleanup!

Create a Backyard Party

The Blackstone griddle surface heated so evenly, the pancakes cooked up in minutes. They were SO good! We have a very small side yard that we haven’t really used. I decided to make a little party space there and it was fun seeing it come to life. I put a farmhouse picnic table in the corner of the side yard with a festive striped umbrella. We put our new grill next to the table. Then I spray painted an old cart and turned it into a pancake topping station.

We whipped up the pancakes and then the kids headed over to the topping station and put fruit, whipped cream and whatever else they wanted on their pancakes. It was the first gathering that we hosted in our new party side yard and it was SO fun!

Ingredients

• 1.5 cups water you can also use milk if you want
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 1 cup ricotta cheese
• 2 tablespoons grated lemon zest
• 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
• 2 tablespoons white sugar
• 2 large eggs, separated
• 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
• 4 tablespoons melted butter
• 2 tablespoons lemon juice
• 2 1/4 cups self-rising flour

Blueberry Sauce

• 2 cups fresh blueberries
• 1/4 cup water
• 1/2 cup white sugar
• 3/4 cup orange juice
• 1/2 cup water
• 4 tablespoons corn starch
• 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
• 1/4 teaspoon lemon extract
• 1 tablespoon lemon zest

Instructions

• In a mixing bowl, mix water and baking soda until combined. Then add ricotta cheese, lemon zest, suga, egg yolks and almond extract. 
  
• Melt butter in microwave and add melted butter to mixing bowl. 
• Add lemon juice and flour to mixing bowl and mix until everything is incorporated. 
• Pour batter into a medium mixing bowl. Wash mixing bowl out and add egg whites to clean mixing bowl. Whip egg whites until fluffy peaks form. Gently fold whipped egg whites into pancake batter. Let batter sit while you make blueberry sauce. 
  

Blueberry Sauce

• In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine blueberries, 1/3 cup water, orange juice, sugar and lemon zest. Stir and bring to a boil. Cook for 5 minutes or until the blueberries are soft and sauce thickens slightly. 
  
• In a small bowl combine cornstarch and 1/4 cup water. Gently stir the cornstarch mixture into the blueberry mixture on the stove. Simmer and sauce will get noticeable thicker. 
• Keep cooking until sauce is desired consistency. 
• Take pan off stove and add almond extract and lemon extract. Stir and serve. 
  

Make pancakes!

• Heat griddle to medium-high heat. Grease griddle, then and add two large spoonfuls of pancake mix for each pancake, smooth them to creating circles. Let cook 3-4 minutes, until surface of pancake starts to bubble and the edges of the pancakes start to look drier, then flip over and cook an additional 3-4 minutes. 
  
• Because these pancakes have ricotta cheese they take a little longer to cook that regular pancakes. If you find that your pancakes are not cooking all the way through in the middle, you can turn your griddle down to medium heat and cook  each side 5 minutes. They will rise as they cook and become fluffy! 
  

Summertime Grilling Ideas

We LOVED using our new Blackstone 36-inch Griddle Cooking Station. It is extremely sturdy and well made. The pancakes cooked so evenly. We can’t wait to use it all summer and even take it camping! You can get one through Walmart.com.

We also used the Blackstone Toolset which was so nice – it includes 2 spatulas, one with perforations for non-stick applications; 1 chopper/scrapper to dice foods or clean griddle, 2 dispensers for liquids and I can’t wait to try Blackstone recipe cookbook! You can also order the toolset from Walmart.com.

I love having my kids’ friends over! It makes me so happy to hear their excited chatter and boisterous energy! The other night my girls’ wanted to have some of their friends over for dinner and to play games. I thought it would be fun to have a pizza bar where everyone could make their own personalized pizza. And since I have loved experimenting with our new airfryer I thought it would be PERFECT for personalized pizzas. And it was. We had a super fun time!

This is what I did to make a Kids Airfry Personalized Pizza Party!

I got all kinds of toppings out — diced cooked chicken, pepperoni, red dauce, pesto, cheeses, all kinds of veggies – artichokes, peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes, onions. I put them in little bowls.

We also experimented with a couple different kinds of crusts. Ready-made Pillsbury pizza dough that comes in a roll. And we also bought pre-made pizza dough from the grocery store. This kind is like homemade without the work LOL!! It’s onle about $2 a package and you can get 2-3 pizzas out of each container of dough, depending on how thick you like your crust.

Now the trick with the airfryer is to leave a little room between the pizza and the edges of the airfryer inside. Since the airfyer uses really hot air circulating at a really fast rate, you need to have room for the air to circulate. Makes sense, right??

Each of the kids made their pizza and then we cooked them! This is what we discovered — thicker pizza crust like the homemade variety needed about 10 minutes to cook at 350-degrees. Thinner pizza crust like the rolled Pillsbury kind required about eight minutes, also at 350-degrees in the airfryer.

Here is the most important tip — ALWAYS spray the bottom pan of the airfryer with non-stick spray. Otherwise your pizza crust will stick and it will be a BIG mess!!

Another tip – since the air circulates SO fast if you put your shredded cheese on top it will blow all over the place. So put the cheese on and then the toppings which will hold the cheese in place.

Since the kids were playing games I cooked all of the pizzas and they were all hot enough to serve at once. You can also put the cooked pizzas in a 200-degree oven to keep them warm until they are all cooked. It was really fun!!

And the airfryer has a mesh cooking surface so it makes the crusts crispier than cooking them in the oven!!

Throw a Valentine’s Party for Your Kids – 5 Easy, No-Stress Ideas!

I have kids of all ages. One of my college kids lives in an apartment by her school. So I love when they are all at my house together! This year I made a point to plan a special party in advance to make sure they could all come and celebrate Valentine’s Day with the family. I think it’s so important to have family events and they don’t have to be a big deal or stressful at all. We had such a fun time at our little Valentine’s party that I thought I would share FIVE ways you can throw a Valentine’s Party for Your Kids – 5 Easy, No-Stress Ideas!

1. Make a Pretty Tablescape. I made a very simple meal but to make it seem extra special I put a little effort into the table! We usually eat in our kitchen nook but for this special night I set the table in our dining room and decorated it for the occasion! I used my regular plates but I created a pretty table centerpiece and added a few little items like a heart bendy straw and a little charm. I found the bendy straw at Hobby Lobby. And the little charm in Target’s Dollar Spot. I also added a little $1 succulent that my kids can take home and keep in their rooms – also from Target’s Dollar Spot. The centerpiece was a faux fur runner and

2. Frame some free printables and hang them in the room. I created these heart printables a few years ago.

All you need to do is print them off and frame them. I attached the frames to my wall with command strips which are easy to put up and take down. No commitment!

3. Make a party table. I have a little buffet in my dining room. I hung the prints above the table and then got out my white cake plates and dollar tree candles and made a pretty vignette. I set the food out on the table and the kids could go over with their plates and pick out the food they wanted buffet-style.

4. Have the kids help make the food. One of the best parts of the night was deciding what we wanted to have and making it together. It was fun to cook together and we got some foods that we take-out too! We made pasta, pizza and got take-out sushi too! All of their favorites. If you are throwing your party ON Valentine’s Day, one of the things we have done in the past is got a Papa Murphy’s Take-and-Bake pizza which is super easy and the kids love it!

5. Add a little gift! I put a little succulent next to each place setting. I also added a straw, charm and some little chocolates too. Plus, we hardly ever use candles when we have dinner. So I lit my Dollar Tree candles and turned the lights out so we could have a candle-lit dinner. It made it seem even more special.

Holiday Minion Cookie Pops

One of our favorite things to do during the holidays is snuggle up on the couch and watch movies together. We look forward to watching our traditional movies and each year we add a couple new movies to our movie tradition. One new movie that we are excited to add to our annual movie list is Despicable Me 3! Despicable Me 3 Special Edition is in stores December 5th on Blu-ray and DVD! I think Despicable Me 3 Movie is a fabulous gift idea! It’s a movie that the whole family can watch together and enjoy! We loved seeing it in the theater, but it’s even MORE fun to watch it in our home.

Also – the DVD and Blu-ray Despicable Me 3 Target release has an All-New Mini Movie, Minion Moments, 20 more minutes of content, character cards, temporary tattoos and more! We all have our favorite Despicable 3 favorite characters. My daughter loves Agnes. I love the Minions, they are just so adorable and FUNNY!! I love how much enthusiasm they have and all of the little sounds they make. LOL!!

Here’s a little bit about this heart-warming film:

Illumination, the studio that brought you Sing, The Secret Life of Pets and the Despicable Me franchise, continues the adventures of Gru and his family in Despicable Me 3. After he is fired from the Anti-Villain League for failing to take down Balthazar Bratt, the latest evil mastermind to threaten humanity, Gru finds himself in the midst of a major identity crisis. But when a mysterious stranger shows up to inform Gru that he has a long-lost twin brother — a brother who desperately wishes to follow in his twin’s despicable footsteps — the former super-villain rediscovers just how good it feels to be bad. I love the way the brothers interact with each other in the movie. There are so many laugh-out-loud moments!!

So when Universal Pictures Home Entertainment asked me to create  a holiday-theme Despicable Me 3 project, I thought holiday Minions would be SO fun! I made Minion Oreo Cookie Pops and my Minions are wearing holiday sweaters! The kids and I had a BLAST creating these cute Minion treats!

Here’s how to make  Holiday Minion Cookie Pops

Supplies:

1 pkg. Oreos

1 package melting chocolate

black icing

googly eyes

food coloring

sprinkles

lollipop sticks

Directions:

Divide your melting chocolate into two sections, one with 2/3 of the melting chocolate, one with 1/3 of the melting chocolate

Melt the larger section of chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl, according to the chocolate instructions.

Once melted, add yellow food coloring until your chocolate is Minion-yellow.

Dip the end of a lollipop stick in the melting chocolate and then insert it into each of the cookies.

Then dip each cookie pop into the chocolate until covered. Tap the cookie on a fork, over the chocolate to get excess chocolate off and to smooth the surface of the cookie pop.

Lay the cookie pop on a metal cooling rack. The holes in the cooling rack will let the excess chocolate drip off, keeping your cookie shape nice and round.

Once the chocolate has cooled you can decorate the cookies.

Melt the other section of melting chocolate in another microwave-safe bowl. Add red food coloring.

Dip the bottom third of each cookie pop in the red chocolate, creating a “sweater”. Put sprinkles on the sweater while the red chocolate is still wet.

Put the cookie back on the cooling sheet.

Once the red chocolate has hardened you can add the faces.

Make a circle with black icing and lines on both sides for the eye or eyes, depending on what your Minion is going to look like. While the icing is still wet, put a googly eye in the center.

Make a mouth under the eyes also with black icing.

Show off your Holiday Minion Cookie Pops!!

There are a few ways you can package your Holiday Minion Cookie Pops if you want to give them as gifts. You can wrap them in cellophane bags. You can also get small glass jars and add some candy to the bottom and put the cookie pops inside. I also made some Minion jingle bells! All I did was dip the jingle bells in yellow paint and then attached an eye in the middle and drew the mouth with a sharpie pen!

It was fun making the different expressions for the Minions. Once of the things I love most about the Despicable 3 Minions are how different all of the Minions are. I tried to make the expressions on the Minion Cookie Pops do the same thing.

SING Animal Pancakes Movie Party

We LOVED the SING movie when we saw it in the theater over the holidays. Now that it’s out on Blu-ray and DVD, we added it to our library right away!! I love that SING is a heartwarming film with a wonderful message. The cast is fantastic and the music is amazing. We celebrated over the weekend with a SING movie night and we even made animal pancakes. The kids loved creating their favorite SING characters for dinner and watching the Blu-ray movie.

Here’s how we made the SING character pancakes:

SING Animal Pancakes Movie Party

I made different sized pancakes – some large and some small. The larger circles were for the character’s faces. The smaller size pancakes were great for making noses and ears. Then I put all of the different sized pancakes on a platter.

I also put different fruits and toppings out that the kids could use for eyes, ears and to color parts of the faces. The fruits we used were blueberries, strawberries and raspberries. The toppings we used were white frosting, chocolate topping, whipped cream and chocolate covered raisins.

Then I let the kids go crazy! It was SO fun!!

We loved seeing all of the SING characters come to life in pancake form.
