The holiday season is upon us, and what better way to spread joy and warmth than by gifting your friends and neighbors a touch of Christmas magic for their homes? I shared the Hygge gift boxes I am taking around to my friends and neighbors on December 1st, and I had so many questions about how to make the DIY Potpourri Jars I included in the boxes. So here’s a little tutorial. these DIY Holiday Potpourri Jars are not only easy to make but also a delightful present that will have everyone talking about the wonderful scents wafting through their homes.

How to Dry Citrus Slices:

Before we dive into creating these charming jars, let’s start with the heart of the potpourri—the dried orange and lemon slices. This step adds a personal touch to your gift and infuses the potpourri with a burst of citrusy goodness.

1. Slice Citrus: Begin by cutting 5-6 slices each of oranges and lemons. Aim for uniform thickness to ensure even drying.
2. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C).
3. Arrange on a Tray: Place the citrus slices on a parchment-lined baking tray, ensuring they are not touching each other. This allows for proper air circulation.
4. Slow and Low: Dry the slices in the preheated oven for 2-3 hours, turning them halfway through. The slow and low method helps preserve the vibrant colors and essential oils.
5. Check for Dryness: The slices are ready when they are mostly dry but still a bit flexible. Remember, they will continue to dry as they cool.

How to Create Holiday Potpourri Jars:

Now that you have your dried citrus slices, let’s assemble these delightful jars of holiday cheer.

Ingredients (per jar):

(Multiply this list by how many jars you want to make up)

• 5-6 slices of oranges and lemons
• 8 star anise
• 2 to 3 bay leaves
• 2 to 3 sprigs of rosemary
• 3 cinnamon sticks
• 1/2 cup cranberries
• 1/2 tablespoon whole allspice

Assembly:

1. Layering: Begin by layering the ingredients in an 8-ounce jar. The order is flexible, but a visually appealing arrangement is part of the gift’s charm.
2. Citrus Slices: Start with the dried orange and lemon slices, placing them along the sides of the jar for a decorative touch.
3. Aromatic Spices: Add the star anise, bay leaves, rosemary sprigs, cinnamon sticks, and whole allspice. The combination of these aromatic elements will create a symphony of scents reminiscent of a winter wonderland.
4. Finishing Touch: Top off the jar with cranberries for a pop of color and an additional burst of fragrance.

You can find embroidery hoops at any craft store like JoAnn Stores. But also – you can order embroidery hoops from Amazon in all kinds of sizes and they will deliver them right to your door (and in 2 days if you have Amazon Prime).

How Long Does it Take to Make Embroidery Hoop Gift Toppers?

You can make these gift toppers in literally minutes. All you do is take your paper, trace around the embroidery hoop you want to use, cut it out and hot glue the paper onto the back of the embroidery hoop.

Add Embellishments

I used different papers and die cuts from the Merry Little Christmas on the toppers I created. You can use your imagination!! To make the die cuts stand out, I attached them to the paper with foam mounting dots.

Add Washi Tape to Embroidery Hoop Sides

Instead of painting the embroidery hoops, I added some color by running washi tape around the outsides of the hoops. Pebbles Inc’s Merry Little Christmas has the cutest washi tapes! I love them.

Attach Toppers to Gifts with Ribbon

Once you have your toppers embellished, tie some ribbon around the top metal embroidery hoop gadget and attach them to your gifts!

5. You can put your FURBO wherever you want. We put it directly on the floor. But if you have a more inquisitive dog you can also put it on a table or somewhere that is harder to reach. There is adhesive you can use on the bottom of the FURBO in case you want to put yours on the floor and it will keep the FURBO upright if your dog tries to knock it over.

6. FURBO is easy to use. There is a packet that comes with FURBO with how to set it up and what size of treats to use. Our dogs are on a bit of a diet to keep them healthy so we ended up using their dog food instead of extra treats. We just deduct  a little from their regular feedings if we feed them during the day from the FURBO.

Overall we love the FURBO. It’s a fun way to interact with our dogs when we aren’t home. I think it makes them a little less lonely when they are home alone!

It seems like we lose everything.  Do you ever feel like that? I’ve left my phone at the post office, grocery store and people’s houses SO many times! My kids have lost their wallets on public transit and even thrown one accidentally in the garbage at school. We’ve never found them! It’s expensive to replace a wallet and it takes so much time and effort. The holidays can be stressful! This month we Michaels Makers were asked to come up with creative and fun holiday hacks and tips to help relieve some of that stress and make holiday entertaining and prepping fun! We were given 5 common holiday hiccups to choose from and I went with neighbor gifts.

So I decided to share one of my favorite recipes – Tang tea – for a neighbor gift idea and free printable!

A long time ago my mom made up a recipe book of all of our favorite family recipes. And y favorite recipe book. One of my childhood recipes is Tang tea. I grew up in Michigan and I remember sitting on the heating vents in my parents family room with a cup of Tang tea. I loved the orange and cinnamon flavors and the warm feeling it gave me as I sipped.

And I thought it would be fun to make Tang tea gift baskets for my neighbors this year. And Michaels has the cutest PLAID baskets and accessories right now. I love plaid this holiday season!

Here is the super easy recipe:

Tang Tea:

1 – 12 ounce jar of TANG mix

2 cups sugar

1 3-ounce package of dry lemonade mix

1 teaspoon cloves

2 teaspoons cinnamon

Mix it all up and store in a dry jar. To serve – mix 2 Tablespoons with one cup of hot water.

I love these glass drink jars with chalkboard looking sayings. And they come with the straws too! Just put them in a basket with the tea and your present is ready!

And these plaid mugs are swoon-worthy. I also love that they can be used all year – not just at Chrisitmas time.

The plaid basket is perfect with the mugs.

This is a super easy and fun gift idea. Here’s how to make it:

Supplies:
FloraCraft square foam
Felt
Duct Tape
Plastic Gold Tees or skewers
Dimensional figures

Directions:

Wrap the foam in felt and secure with duct tape around the perimeter.
Make a grid on the felt with duct tape – dividing the top into 9 even sections.
Hot glue dimensional figures to the top of the gold tees.

So easy and fun. You can use anything for a theme!
Have a nephew who loves Star Wars? Get some little Star Wars figures and use them!
Have a daughter who loves princesses – find some little princess figurines and use them!

This was a really fun project to create!!

I found some glasses at Ross for $4 for a set of 4. Then I bought some snow medium and some glitter from my local craft store. Seriously, this project couldn’t be easier.

I think this little gift would be great for a teacher or neighbor gift this year. And for under $2 each, this is a great Holiday gift idea. I also love that you can keep this fun little votive holder out through Winter – you don’t need to pack it away after Christmas!!

Here’s how to make your own Snowman Wine Glass Votive Holders:

Supplies:

• Wine Glasses

• Snow Medium. I tried two different kinds. One is DecoArt’s Snow-Tex and  and the other is Aileen’s True Snow.

• Glitter — Twinlet’s Diamond Dust

• Sculpy Clay – I bought orange for the carrot nose and black for the Snowman’s eyes and mouth

• Some material for the Snowman’s scarf. I used a $1 Dollar Store Bandana — but scraps of flannel would be really cute too!

Directions:

• Trowel on the snow medium with a paint brush.

• Immediately sprinkle some glitter over the top of the snow medium while it’s still wet.

• While the snow medium is drying, shape the sculpy clay. Make some noses, eyes and mouths. Bake them in the over at 275-degrees for 15 minutes.

• Once the snow medium is set, apply the eyes and mouths with E6000. Let set 2-3 hours.

• Then cut 1″ wide by 8″ lengths of flannel of polka dot material for the scarf. Tie it at the top of the stem and adhere with a glue dot or hot glue.

Now you have a fun little gift for your neighbor or child’s teacher. Add a little votive and it makes a charming focal point to your Holiday decor. I love sitting mine on my kitchen counter!!

Hi Tatertots and Jello readers! Happy Fall!!

Today I am going to share with you a really great favor for your Thanksgiving guests.

I really love to send friends and family home with a little something that helps them remember the good times we shared at Thanksgiving. It is a simple recipe, packaged up extra cute. What I love about this is you can do these a few days in advance and have them ready to go! I hope you can stop by and visit me over at Cleverly Inspired! I am always working on something fun!

Just hole punch a couple holes at the top of the bag… some ribbon( and sparkle too if you would like) ties it all together!

 

  Here is the recipe for the Christmas butter:

• 1/2 cup butter, softened

• 4 teaspoons packed brown sugar

• 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground nutmeg

• 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Preparation:

•  Beat all ingredients until fluffy. Store in refrigerator
