Welcome Home Saturday

Happy Saturday, friends! How was your week? What are you working on? I got home from moving my son to Portland on Monday and honestly, was in a bit of a sad mood for a few days. I miss him so much. But I know he is where is should be and I feel really grateful to have been able to help him move and spend the long weekend with him, his friends and my girls. It was wonderful! Have you ever been to Portland? It’s such a fun place to explore. I am going to write up a little guide that you can access if you ever want to visit for the weekend!

Things I Love This Week!

Our New Airbnb!

I listed our new airbnb about a week ago and it’s been crazy! We are on our third guest and almost booked out through November. There was someone who wanted to rent it for THREE months. I knew I wanted to host an airbnb because I thought it would be fun but honestly I love it so much more than I ever thought I would! I love finding out about my guest and creating custom welcome baskets just for them!

It rained here last night and the weather is definitely feeling fall-ish! I’ve put my summer dresses away and I’m back in jeans every day now. I seem to be always looking for the perfect pair of jeans. Anyone else also on this never-ending quest?? This week I am sharing some of my favorite fall fashion items. Things I have recently bought and things that I have ordered, and great sales too!

Fall Fashion Items I Love

You might not know it, but @modernglamhome is my sister! She lives in the Bay Area close to my mom and other sister and she has a gorgeous store in Danville, CA. She also sells online.

Boots

Dolce Vita Caster Boot in Camel

I saw on her @shopflaunt instagram account the most beautiful boots and ordered them. They came yesterday and they’re so comfy! I think she still has a few pairs left if you want to check them out and see the other beautiful clothes and home items she sells.

New Kick Cropped Flare Jeans

My friend Jennifer at @DimplesAndTangles has the cutest, preppy home and fashion looks! I have ordered a lot of the items she shares on her Instagram. I have been wanting to get some jeans that are less “skinny jean”, with a wider leg. She shared the prettiest cop flared jeans from The Loft. They are normally $78 but right now they were $49 PLUS another 20% off — I think the total came to $34. I am super excited to get them!

Blush Kimono Jacket

I stopped by Target yesterday as a reward for working so hard this week. I found the BEST transitional jacket. It’s a Kimono-style open jacket. But the material is super light and the sleeves are half sleeves so it’s perfect for Fall! I plan to layer a long-sleeved top underneath when it gets colder and wear it all winter too!

New Projects

This week I shared a really easy and quick wreath. The pumpkins are from Dollar Tree. I wrapped them with fabric from Hobby Lobby. The fabrics are so pretty! I made toilet paper pumpkins which are a larger size than the dollar store pumpkins. I put the toilet paper pumpkins in little vignettes throughout my home. This wreath is so easy to make and you can cover the pumpkins with whatever fabric goes with your decor!

Cents of Style

One of my favorite things about blogging are the people I have met over the past ten years. One of my favorite and most inspiring friends I have met is Courtney Brown, owner of Cents of Style! We did a collection a few years ago and it was SO fun!

Most of the other jumpsuits I’ve tried have not been flattering. I am a mom of 4. I’m in my 40’s, I’m a little heavier than I want to be. This jumpsuit flows and fits in the right places!!

In the winter I can layer a sweater with it. And it’s perfect for traveling too! It won’t wrinkle and it fits into a small ball. I also love that it comes in different colors. I love black but wearing a colored jumpsuit would be so bright and happy looking.

Look #1 – wear it every day. Add your backpack, a neutral belt, tights and booties and go!

Sometimes it’s hard to be a girl! Have you ever felt like that?? Especially when you are a tween or teen. I have a daughter who had the hardest time finding outfits to wear that she loved. And it made her late for school almost every single day. So we came up with this idea – a Look Book. Organizing with Photos – Tween Look Book Printables.

I think this idea would be great for anyone really. You know how you feel when you have an outfit on that you feel really good about? Snap a photo of yourself. Then you print out the photos and put them in a little album. This album is actually made for Insagram and you print your outfit photos out in 4×4 sizes.

Then there’s a printable sheet where you can write about what you have on and put it in the album next to the outfit photo. Ella did this with her wardrobe and it’s cut out a lot of outfit worries. There are a few different printables that you can choose from for your album. You just print them out, add your outfit photos, write about the outfits and put in the date. And then keep the album in your closet. So the next time you are looking for a cute outfit to wear – just flip through the album and pick out those clothes and you are set!

This album idea also makes an AWESOME birthday gift for your daughter’s twee/teen friends. Put the album together and all they have to do is take pictures and add some comments to their album.

I’ve also included a big We What You Love poster-sized printable. It’s perfect to hang up in your daughter’s room. And you can print it out on the  Canon PIXMA iP8720 Crafting Printer.

Living in the South, nothing says summer like seersucker! It’s always been one of my all time favorite fabrics.

Normally I sew clothing from seersucker, but I thought it would be fun to try out making a clutch out of seersucker fabric. To keep it all from being too “sweet” I added a few touches of leather.

Even though it’s still chilly outside, I’m going to start carrying my clutch as a reminder that warmer weather is not far away.

If you want to make one you’ll need:

2 pieces of seersucker fabric cut to 9” x 12″

1 piece of seersucker cut to 3” x 16”

2 pieces of Shape Flex interfacing cut to 9” x 12”

2 pieces of fabric for the lining cut to 9” x 12”

2 pieces of fusible fleece interfacing cut to 9” x 12”

2 pieces of leather cut to 4” x 4”

2 pieces of leather cut to 1” x 1 1/2”

Leather Needle

Extra Strong Thread

Regular Thread

9” Metal Zipper

Glue Stick

Zipper Foot for Sewing Machine

Begin by cutting your 4” x 4” leather squares in half on the diagonal. To cut leather I use a rotary cutter dedicated to only cutting leather.

Press the shape flex to the wrong side of the seersucker fabrics

Press the fusible fleece to the wrong side of the lining fabrics

Using a glue stick, apply a bit of glue to the wrong side of the leather triangles. Attach one triangle to each bottom corner of the clutch. Use binding clips to hold the leather in place.

Put the leather needle in your machine

Thread the top thread with extra strong thread (you can leave the bobbin thread as is)

Set your stitch length to 4

Going slowly, sew the leather across the diagonal.

Repeat for the other side of the clutch.

Apply a bit of glue to the back of the 2 1″ x 1 1/2” pieces of leather. Using binding clips, clip to the ends of the zipper. Stitch the leather to the ends of the zipper, close to the zipper.

Put the regular needle back in your machine and switch the thread back out.

Fold the 3” x 16” piece of fabric in half lengthwise with right sides together. Sew. Turn right side out and press with the seam in the center of the tube of fabric.

Fold the fabric in half again.

Top stitch down each side of the fabric.

Cut the finished piece to 13″ long.

Pin to the left side of the clutch front 3 1/2” down from the top.

Trim the leather ends of your zipper down to 1” long.

Center the zipper on the clutch front piece. Pin the zipper to the clutch front piece with the RIGHT side of the zipper facing the RIGHT side of the clutch.

Pin the RIGHT side of the lining to the WRONG side of the zipper.

Attach a zipper foot to your sewing machine. Stitch this seam.

Repeat for the other side of the zipper.

After you’ve sewn the clutch front and back to the zipper, press the seams well away from the zipper. Top stitch along both sides of the zipper.

UNZIP the zipper.

Pin the two clutch outside pieces together, right sides together. Pin the two lining pieces right sides together. Stitch around the perimeter of the clutch using a 1/2” seam allowance. Leave a 4” opening in the lining piece to turn the clutch right side out.

Turn right side out. Press well. Hand stitch the opening in the lining closed.

Do you have an outfit or sandals that you are just dying to break out for Spring? Or maybe you already have because it’s warm where you live. Here’s the outfit that I can’t wait to wear:

I found some white denim capris – on sale too. I love white denim in the Spring, it just seems so much prettier than regular denim. And I love a colorful top and chunky necklace.

Plus, a stretchy belt always looks so pretty with a fuller top.

And these are my favorite sandals. They are pretty worn from last year. I wore them all the time. Even though they have a tall wedge heel, they are so comfortable! They are from the brand Toms and they have extra padding in the soles. I am going to look for another pair in a different print this year, I love them so much!

Last month I shared that I was using Jergen’s Natural Glow to get ready for Spring and Summer outfits. I really have used it for years. I love the way it’s gradual and it doesn’t have that self-tanning smell as much as other products that I’ve tried. Here are my arms – one has the Jergens lotion on it and the other doesn’t:
