Rainbow Pride Hydrangea Wreath

We love June and Pride month. With a child who is gay I am proud to support my child, be an ally and support love and equality for all LGBTQ+ kids. (see more about my personal story and resources at the bottom of this post) I’m an ally and support my LGBTQ+ friends and family. Utah has a Pride parade that peacefully marches just blocks from our new home.

What Colors Can You Include in a Rainbow Wreath?

The main colors in the rainbow are — red, orange yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. The colors that are significant for the LGBTQ+ flag are — red = life, pink = passion, orange = healing, yellow = sun, green = nature, turquoise = art, indigo = harmony, violet = spirit.

Rainbow Hyrandgea Wreath Supplies

• Wreath form (I used a flat mdf form but you can use a grapevine wreath, foam wreath form or even cardboard will work)
• Hydrangea flowers (use as many on the rainbow spectrum as you want. I’ve listed the colors above)
• Ribbons (optional)
• Hot glue and glue gun
• Wire (if using a grapevine wreath form)

Steps to Make a Rainbow Flower Wreath

This wreath is so easy to make! In minutes you can have a bright and beautiful rainbow flower wreath!

Cut the Stems Off Flowers

I used wire cutters to cut the stems off tje hydrangea blooms. Cut close to the base of the flower head.

Arrange Flowers on the wreath form

I arranged the flowers in their placement on the flag = red, pink, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and white (just because it’s pretty).

Hot Glue the Flowers to the Wreath Form

Using a flat wreath form or cardboard:

If you are using a flat wreath form it can be a little tricky to hot glue the flowers onto the wreath form since the ends of the flower heads stick out under the flower. I put a dab of glue at the point of the flower base and set it on the wreath form. Once I did this to each flower and the glue cooled, I flipped the form over and then glued some of the flowers at the edges onto the back of the wreath form. This keeps the flowers more securely onto the form.

Using a round wreath form or grapevine wreath form:

If you are using a styrofoam or foam wreath form you can stick the backs of the flowers right into the wreath form. Make a hole with the sharp point at the back of the flower into the wreath form, then pull it back out, add a dab of hot glue and push the stem back into the hole. For a grapevine wreath, use wire or hot glue the flowers onto the wreath form.

Cut Lengths of Colored Ribbon to Make a Bow

This is optional. You can leave the wreath plain and hang it up or you can make a bow with colored ribbon. I cut 9 different colors of ribbon and wrapped it around the base and tied it into a bow.

Mama Dragons

I”ve been on a journey as a mom of a LGBTQ+ child for the past 12 years. I will write a post sharing more of my journey. I’ve struggled because my child is very private and I felt sharing too much information would violate their privacy. But at the same time I had such a hard time knowing how to help my child navigate coming to terms with their orientation and well being.

My sister also has a gay child and she has been a wonderful example of how to support her child and other LGBTQ kids. She is now president of Mama Dragons – a world-wide support group for moms of kids on the LGBTQ+ spectrum. Please check out their website and I would LOVE for you to share it with anyone that might need a support group!

Encircle Together

Encircle Toogether is another wonderful resource, especially if you are in Utah. Encircle Together is a youth and family resource center with locations in Provo, Salt Lake and St. George Utah. Encircle locations offer drop-in hours, friendship circles, education programs as well as therapy. What Kind of Battery Does Hoover ONEPWR System Machine Use?

Let me tell you a little about the battery that powers all NINE of the Hoover ONEPWR machines. It’s a lithium battery and it’s rechargeable. It comes with a charger that’s easy to use and I love that it has rapid charge which means that it charges in less than 3.5 hours.

And as I said before, each machine comes with it’s own battery and charging station and each battery fits into each of the machines. I know for me that it’s so frustrating to be right in the middle of cleaning when the battery dies and then you have to wait HOURS for the battery to recharge again. With this system all you have to do is change out the battery and you can keep going!

Floormate Jet — Vacuums AND Washes in One Step Without a Cord

I loved each of the machines I reviewed for different reasons. The Floormate Jet is vacuum AND mop in one! How cool is that? This machine has already saved me so much time. My entire main floor is hardwood so previously I would vacuum first and then mop. With this machine I am now able to do both at once. Amazing!

There are two different brush rollers that come with the machine – one for hard surfaces and one for rugs. The brushes roll as you push and pick up wet and dry messes. The machine works on wood, tile, vinyl and rugs. I love that it dries faster than other machines I’ve had in the past.

There is a compartment to put cleaning solution that you mix with water and a lever you squeeze which sprays the mixture onto your floor, then the system gently washes and scrubs while suctioning the messes up into a large forward container which you dump out at the end.

There is also a storage stand that fits with the machine and a place to put t he rollers to store them and let them dry out in between uses. Genius! Seriously, my floors have NEVER looked so clean. It really got all of the dog hair off of my floors!

The Blade Machine — Tiny but Powerful

Ok I have so much to say about this little machine. I have tried every single cordless vaccum. This one is my absolute favorite.

The Blade Machine – fits everywhere, even under the couch

First of all the head is small so it fits EVERYWHERE! Our dog hair tends to accumulate under our barstools and perviously I had to drag all of the stools out into the middle of the room to get underneath to get all of that dog hair. This little machine fits in between the stools. Also, we have a pretty low couch and there were NO cordless vacuums that could get under our couch so I was always trying to get a sweeper under there but the dog hair would just shift around and I could never really get all of the dog hair out without moving the entire couch. This little machine fits UNDER my couch and sucks out all of that hair!! I am so happy about this.

Small But Powerful

A little about how powerful the blade machine is. I was really impressed with how powerful the suction is for such a small machine. Hoover included something called DustVault technology which means that the Blade captures 99% of dust and fine particles.

Gets the Dirt Out

There is also a Twin Helix brush roll which means it really gets in there and gets the dirt out, even on carpet and rugs. I also love that the Blade has LED headlights so I can see what is in front of the machine. I can’t tell you how many necklaces and headphones my other machines have vacuumed up.

The Blade also Converts to a Hand Vacuum

You can also convert the Blade into a hand vaccum and get into the crevices of your couch or use it to get into tiny spaces. And the dust bin is really easy to empty. The dirt cup comes completely out of the machine so it’s super easy to empty.

High-Performance Blower – Cordless Outdoor Cleaning

I was also able to review this powerful blower. I used it to blow all of the dog hair off of our covered back porch. This is a place that our dogs love to lay in and their hair really accumulates there. Let me tell you, using a blower to clean our porch off was SO much faster and easier than sweeping it, which is what I had done previously.

Different Air Setting Make Cleaning Different Outdoor Areas Easier

A few things that stood out to me when using the High-Performance Blower. I loved that I could control the air output with different speed settings. It also has a couple of nozzles that make it longer or shorter. I can’t wait to use it in the fall to clean off leaves in the yard!

Frame Special Travel Photos and Display Them In Your Home by Making a DIY Shadow Box Frame!

I’m usually a layout crafter but I wanted to do something different because all my photos were from different highlights of our trip.  I found a cute shadow box cut file from Lori Whitlock in the Silhouette store. (here’s a similar grid picture frame from amazon) It was time consuming but it was pretty easy to put together.

Create a Shadow Box Title with Thickers

The first thing I added to it after my photos was the Road Trip title.  It was really perfect for it.

Next Add Embellishments

Here I just added a simple piece of washi tape and a little pink car!  So cute!

Use Washi Tape to highlight photos

In addition to the pink car, the thickers set also had this adorable taxi!  I added a city outline washi tape behind it.  

Frame Die Cuts or Ephemera

You can also frame die cuts or ephemera in the frames or even layer them on top of photos as well!

This girl with the map is a die cut in the Chasing Adventures line. I layered her on top of one of our photos!

Customize Your Travel Shadow Box to Match Your Home!

So for my first attempt at a shadowbox, I am pretty pleased with how it turned out.  The hardest part was probably picking out which photos to use.

Messenger Kids is a free calling and messaging app designed for kids. Kids only connect with parent-approved contacts which creates a safe environment and fun extras like interactive masks, sound effects and stickers make if fun for kids to call or send messages to loved ones.

I’ve had a Facebook account for almost 10 years. Over that time, it’s been so fun to re-connect with friends and keep up to date with Facebook contacts. However, as a parent, I’ve also discovered that online communication can be a scary thing for kids. Our step daughter came to us recently asking for permission to download an app that seemed too advanced for her 10 years. She was disappointed that we said no but we felt it wasn’t a good fit for her at her young age.

A Safe Environment

When I found out about the new Messenger Kids app, which is controlled by parents and still has fun photo filters, stickers, frames and messaging options in a safe environment, I immediately wanted to give it a try.

Parents Have Complete Control

As I was looking into Messenger Kids, I discovered that not only did it give us parents complete control of our child’s contacts, but we can approve or remove a contact at any time. Also, messages don’t disappear and can’t be hidden in case we want to check in on message history.

Parents Can Control Screen Time

Another cool thing about Messenger Kids is that we can control screen time on the app by using “sleep mode” to create pre-set times, like during dinner or bed time, when the app is not available for use.

It’s Fun for Kids

The app has all of the fun features that my step-daughter wanted to experience. From filters, to masks, stickers and GIF’s which are age-appropriate.

No Ads

There are no ads in Messenger Kids, Facebook doesn’t use our child’s information and there are no in-app purchases.

You Don’t Need a Phone

You don’t need a phone to use Messenger Kids – all you need is Wi-fi, so kids can use the app on a shared family computer or tablet instead. This is a great alternative to getting your child a cell phone, but still let them message and video call approved friends and family.

We decided to give it a try! It was easy to download and use. Here’s what happened:

Parents Set the Controls

We set up the account with our privacy preferences and pre-approved our daughter’s contacts. I had to authenticate the tablet she was using to my Facebook account, but the app does not make a Facebook account for your child.

Then the app said it was our daughter’s turn to set up her part of the app. She started using the app right away.

So far, I am really pleased with how Messenger Kids works. I love having control over who my daughter is able to contact and being able to check in on the messages she sends and receives. She is having a great time playing with the different features of the app.

I will keep you updated with our experience after we have had a chance to use the app for a few weeks.

Washable Laundry Sock Pouches

One of the most wonderful parts of moving to our neighborhood has been my girls’ school. I was able to get them into a brand-new charter STEM school. The love it!

I’ve never been part of a charter school before and I love how involved we are with the school, teachers and environment. The school is 6-12 which is so awesome because both of my girls are able to go to the same school too!

So I was SUPER excited when Frito-Lay Variety Packs contacted me and told me about their #MyDreamvention campaign. My Dreamvention encourages kids to look around and try to solve problems in the world around them – that can be in their homes or communities. They asked us to come up with an invention to do as a family. It was so fun!

We clicked over to MyDreamvention.com to see what it was all about. Dream it. Submit it. And you can win $250,000. I love that they encourage families to work together to create something to make their family or community stronger!! If you can’t think of something off the top of your head, there is a quiz that can spark some ideas!

After talking it through together, we decided to invent something that will make our home run smoother. One of the things the kids mentioned is that they are always losing their socks when they do their laundry. I don’t know what happens to the socks but it has become a real problem in our household. We decided to see if we could solve this problem!

What we came up with is a more efficient way of doing and keeping track of our laundry. We found foldable pop-up laundry containers that are very efficient and easy to transport. We only have one laundry room and three floors in our home. So the kids that live in the basement have to bring their laundry two floors up. And our laundry room is SUPER small. So there isn’t a lot of room to spread the laundry out. My two teenage daughters get their laundry mixed up all the time. One daughter’s bedroom is in the basement and the other daughter’s bedroom is on the top floor, which makes it hard when the laundry gets mixed up. Sometimes that items never makes it back to the right owner’s room!

We decided every person would get a different color laundry basket. This will make it easier to differentiate between the laundry. Now for the sock problem. We decided that having socks floating around the small room with so many different people living in our home is difficult. We brain-stormed different ways to keep the socks together. We could safety pin them but that seemed too hard. We came up with an idea — each person gets a washable garment bag for their socks! It hangs on the side of their laundry hamper. When each person takes their socks off for the day they put both of those socks in the hanging zippable container.  And each person has a different day of the week to do their laundry. That way they can use the washer and dryer and noone else is trying to do it at the same time! They do their laundry, pop the washable laundry container in with their wash. It goes through the washer and the drier and all of the socks stay together and come out clean!!

To coordinate each person’s colors, we added a colored clip for each person to attach the sock container to their laundry hamper. We also sewed a little heart on each of the sock pouches that is the same color as that person’s hamper and clip. So just in case a person’s sock pouch is left up in the laundry room, whoever finds it can see who it belongs to simply by the color heart on the pouch.

We put the first round of socks through the washing cycle and I am THRILLED to say that they all came back in matching pairs to the right owners. NO MORE MISSING SOCKS!!

As a mom, sometimes I feel like I am always saying no to my kids. No you can’t go to your friends house until you’ve cleaned your room. No you can’t have that snack because it will be dinner time soon. No you can’t have that sugary drink. So when Capri Sun contacted me and told me about their new line of drinks with less sugar than regular juice drinks and NO high fructose corn syrup, I was excited. Capri Sun is the perfect drink to add to my children’s packed lunches each day. Capri Sun asked me to take my kids on a Day of YESSSSS!! How could I resist that??

I asked my kids what they would want to do and they decided on a picnic and they wanted to bring our dogs too. So we packed everyone up and headed downtown to a GIANT park. My She Space and ME Time Place! Corner Office Getaway

Have you heard of She Sheds?? I posted about one my neighbor made in her backyard 5 years ago. And since that time, She Sheds have exploded!! I LOVE seeing the way women make spaces for their own personal hobbies and ME time! YOU know, life can get a little crazy — especially with kids and all of the other things that come along in life. As a mom of four and a new step-daughter too – I am SO SO SO thankful for my kids but there are some times that I need a little ME time!! Can you RELATE???

My husband LOVES college football. And I watch along with him some weekends, but sometimes I need a little ME time AND a sweet treat. I don’t have a big yard in our home so I can’t make a whole She Shed, but I wanted to create a little ME space where I can get away from work, and kids and life, enjoy a treat and escape. As you might know, my favorite book series is the OUTLANDER series. I have been reading them for the past 20 years. Sitting down and having a little time to read my books and have me-time really re-charges me.

I work out of my front room office. I try to keep the room really simple and clutter-free. My craft room is upstairs in a room where I can make a mess and no one can see it! So I thought my office would be the perfect place for a small nook where I can recharge my MOM batteries. I was inspired by this video:

The room is open to the front door and doesn’t really have a cozy space. I decided to create a more intimate space with a privacy screen. I found one on Amazon and I love how simple it is. I brought in the leather lounge chair that I had in my 1905 Cottage bedroom. It is SO comfy and the perfect place to relax.

When the screen is closed my kids know they can come in and I am completely available.

When the screen is open they know that I am having a little Me time – recharging my MOM batteries.

I added a side table where I added a lamp for late-night reading lighting AND a place to keep my indulgent snacks! More on those in a moment.

A fluffy pillow adds the final element to my perfect She-Space! I keep my Outlander books and my FAVORITE treat – Fiber One Bars. I discovered them a couple of years ago. Make a Guest Book for YOUR Home

We love our new home. It’s been so awesome exploring our new neighborhood and community. I am not the best at scrapbooking, but I really wanted to record all of the fun things we have been doing as a family in our new home. So I thought it would be fun to create a scrapbook for our home and record our adventures.

I have two older kids that have their own apartments but they still come over and hang out with us most weekends; as they all grow older I know these moments with all of us together will be farther and far between. Capturing these moments means so much to me. I made a Home Scrapbook and I have been printing off our pictures and having the kids record the things that we do together. It’s been awesome to look back on all of the things that we have done already and read what the kids have written.

I have a free printable you can print off that says – Welcome to our Home. You can put it at the front of YOUR home scrapbook, or print off a picture of your home and put that on the front. Then when you have people come visit, have them write about their visit in your home in the scrapbook! I love this idea of scrapbooking. I think it’s very easy and a wonderful way to look back on experiences you and the people you love have created in YOUR home.
