I LOVE fall. There’s something so magical about this time of year! It’s the season of cozy sweaters, warm drinks, and time spent with loved ones around the fire. For me, fall is all about creating a warm and inviting atmosphere at home—a place where you can fully embrace the season’s charm and make memories with your friends and family. This year, I’m excited to share how I’ve added some simple yet impactful fall elements to our home, making it a cozy haven for these special autumn days.

Fall Updates in Our Home This Year

I added a few simple elements to our home this year. I love lighting the candles at night, with the windows open letting the fall air inside.

Fall Wreath in the Kitchen

I love hanging a wreath above out stove. This year I hung a raffia pumpkin instead of a basic wreath. And faux fall flowers and then added my favorite fall ribbon. I love the candy-corn colors of this ribbon.

Fall Decor on the Open Shelves

To complement the wreath, I added a few carefully selected fall decor items to the open shelves in our kitchen. I switched out summer flowers in my white pots for fall leaves and it instantly adds autumn vibes.

New Throw and Pillow in the Family Room

In the family room, I introduced a new throw and pillow that not only bring in the cozy factor but also tie in with the autumn color palette. These simple additions make the room feel warm and inviting, perfect for those cool fall evenings.

Easy Fall Centerpiece on the Coffee Table

The coffee table in our family room now features an easy fall centerpiece. This arrangement is a blend of seasonal elements that create a focal point in the room, adding to the overall cozy atmosphere.

Fall Porch Makeover

Our porch received a full fall makeover this year. I added VIRAL stacked pumpkin topiaries, added a matching fall wreath, and layered a pumpkin rug over a plaid rug in front of the door. The pumpkin garland over the door and candy-corn-colored ribbon bows all around bring everything together for a welcoming fall entrance. I’ll be sharing more details about this porch transformation later this weekend!

Cozy Elements in the Bedroom

Inside, I’ve also added some cozy touches to our bedroom. A cozy quilt and soft duvet cover are perfect to wrap up in for an afternoon nap or to read my favorite Outlander novels. I think a lot of people don’t think about decorating their bedroom for the seasons, but it is my favorite way to make our bedroom feel like a restful retreat!

Paper Bag Leaf Garland

Hi friends! It’s August and since it’s been raining the last few days, I am getting in the mood for fall. I had a big pile of paper bags under our kitchen sink and I thought instead of throwing them in the recycling bin, why not make something out of them for fall? The warm brown hues and the rough paper texture seemed perfect for fall!

Upcycle Paper Bags into Craft Projects

I had so much fun creating paper snowflakes last Christmas that I have been looking for another project to se paper bags for and this one is so easy! So instead of throwing those paper grocery store bags away or in your recycling can, save them to make crafts with!

Paper Bag Leaf Garland is a Free Project

I love a free project! It feels kind of magical turning trash into something to display. I found items around my house for this project so it doesn’t cost anything!

Where Can You Display a Paper bag Leaf Garland?

I created this garland to go on my mantel, but the beauty of this idea is that you can make this project to go almost anywhere in your home. You can display this on a shelf, above a cabinet or instead of glueing the paper leaves to a branch, glue them to a string and hang it over a doorway or over a bed to welcome fall !

Supplies to Make a Paper Bag Leaf Garland

All you need to make this project are:

• 8-10 paper grocery store bags
• 1-2 branches from your yard (or heavy cord if you don’t want to use a branch)
• Hot glue gun and glue sticks
• Metallic paint (optional)

How to Make a Paper Bag Leaf Garland

• The first thing I did was cut my bags apart so I had the front and back of the bag as a flat surface.
• Trace a leaf on a bag. I have included a template if you want to use mine. Just print it off, cut around the leaf template and use it to trace and cut out leaves on your paper bags. I included three different sizes.
• Cut out your leaves. I cut out the larger leaves first.
• Then take the scraps and cut out the smaller leaves.
• Arrange your branches on your mantel or shelf.
• Hot glue leaves to the branches. Start with the large leaves and fill in with the medium and small leaves, layering as you go.
• Optional – add a little shine to your leaves by adding veining with metallic paint and outlining some of the leaves.

Fall Mantel and DIY Felt Leaf Garland

Can you believe the fall is almost here? Fall is my favorite! I look forward to crisp mornings, bright colorful trees, roasting marshmallows in the backyard and sipping hot Cider on our porch. One of my very favorite things to do to get ready for fall is decorate our family room mantle! This year I partnered with Hobby Lobby to share the coziest, cutest fall mantle and DIY felt Leaf Garland. I hope you will be inspired by this project!

Fall-Colored Bottle Brush Trees

Over the years I have been collecting Hobby Lobby’s colorful bottle brush trees. I use them for Thanksgiving and Christmas decor each year. This year as I was browsing Hobby Lobby’s fall items, I was so excited to see that they have a fall collection of their bottlebrush trees! The colors of the Fall bottlebrush trees are So Glorious. They come in three colors – a moody dark green, a beautiful rust yellow-orange and a gorgeous mustard yellow. There are also a package of smaller trees that coordinate with the larger ones. The smaller package has a black tree, a mustard yellow tree, and a rust orange tree. They are perfect to decorate for fall and Halloween!

Fall light up Village

Another item that I fell in love with as I was browsing Hobby Lobby’s fall section, or these gorgeous ceramic houses. I was thrilled to see that they also light up! How adorable and cozy will these houses be on a mantle, a shelf or as a centerpiece on your kitchen island or dining room table. The roofs of the houses are black and there are some that have copper roofs. I love the sheen of the metallic against the white ceramic houses. The houses in the bottlebrush trees are so adorable to decorate with for fall and Halloween! I couldn’t resist. I scooped up 7 houses of different sizes as well as two packages of the small bottle brush trees and five of the larger bottle brush trees!

Scrolled Mirror

Another one of my favorite finds from Hobby Lobby is my scrolled mirror. The look of the scrolled mirror is so upscale and it’s a piece that you can keep out all year round. I love using a mirror on my mantle because it’s a great way to reflect the light into a room. I layered the mirror with this beautiful landscape that I also found at Hobby Lobby. The wall art was on sale the week I bought it so I was able to purchase it for 50% off and it came to under $10! I love the way that the landscape looks layered against the mirror.

Fall DIY Felt Leaf Garland

One DIY that I love to create our garlands. Last year I made a pumpkin Garland out of yarn and it turned out so cute! This year I thought felt would be perfect for fall. I found six different felt colors in the felt aisle at Hobby Lobby. I decided to create a super easy and cozy Leaf Garland using this felt.

Free Leaf Template

I created a template to make cutting out the felt leaves super easy and I’m sharing it with you! Just right click on this the link below and save it to your computer.

Free Fall Leaf Template

Then print it out. Cut out the leaf and Trace the template onto your felt. I just lay it on top of the fill and cut around the template instead of having to trace. This is an easy way to create leaves that are uniform so that they all look like they’re the same size.

Beaded Garland

I found this 5 ft Beaded Garland and Hobby Lobby’s fall Department. Everything in Hobby Lobby’s fall department is on sale right now so this Garland was super affordable. Once I cut out the felt leaves, I simply added glue to the top of the leaf pinched the top together until the hot glue dried and then hot glued three leaves together in bunches. I spaced the leaves apart on the Garland counting out 10 beads between each of the leaf bunches. I use hot glue to attach the leaf bunches to the twine and voila I had a super cute fall Garland to hang on my mantle!

Velvet Pumpkins

Another one of my favorite fall items that I unbox these gorgeous Jewel-colored velvet pumpkins that I bought last year at Hobby Lobby. I spotted them again this year so be sure to grab some before they’re gone! The Velvet colors are just beautiful and the texture of the velvet is so Luxe!

Ways to Make Your Home Cozy

Hello friends! How was your week? Have your kids started school? My daughter starts her senior year this coming week. Where did the time go??

She was 3 when I started blogging and this is the last year I’ll have kids in school. It’s crazy!! Our bathroom remodel is still in progress. I am hoping it will be done pretty soon!

Cozy Home Projects

This week I thought it would be fun to share some easy ways to make your home cozy for early fall. It’s still pretty warm here but I am starting to get excited for fall weather and being able to open our bedroom window at night again! Here are some ideas!

Boho Cottage Fall Mantel

Here’s our fall mantel from last year. I used an owl vase that I’ve had for about 10 years. I love the colors in the faux stems. Those reds and oranges are so cozy for fall! I also brought in some texture with a few woven baskets. I shared our new Fall Mantel on my site this week. You can scroll down to see it!

Fall Home Tour

I shared some cozy ideas in my fall home tour last year. Here’s our new bathroom. I built a shallow shelf above our clawfoot tub so that I would have a place to put candles and plants. Some pumpkins and a sweet fall sign are easy ways that I brought fall into our little bathroom!

Another way to add some cozy touches to your home is a cozy doormat. This one is one of my favorites!

Fall Tablescape

Another way to bring cozy vibes to your home is a fall tablescape. This one was fun to make. I created a no-sew table runner and brought in lots of fall texture with these rafia pumpkins, and of course, candles!

Boho Cottage Fall Ideas

We live in an 1891 home that we have been remodeling for the past two years. And I am SO excited to say that it is almost all the way done! I am sharing our bottom floor and I’ll link to the DIY projects that I created in each room too!

Welcome to our Fall Home!

In our entryway I created a little centerpiece with these fabric-wrapped pumpkins. Can you guess what I used to make these pumpkins??? TOILET PAPER. That’s right! Check out my Elevated Toilet Paper Pumpkin tutorial to see how I made them FOUR different sizes!

Boho Cottage Dining Nook

When you walk into our home the first room you see is our dining room. I just finished painting the wall black and love how moody and dramatic it is! I worked with my friend Shannon at @thriftsandwicks to create the basketwall. Shannon creates full basket walls at great prices. Check her out to put a basket wall on a wall in your home. My master bedroom which is almost done and we are creating a basket wall over our bed. I can’t wait to share it! I created this boho centerpiece that matches the casual, boho vibe in the room.

Boho Cottage Fall Centerpiece

I made FOUR projects for this centerpiece — 1. a DIY NO-SEW runner, 2. fabric-wrapped pumpkins and 3. a footed bowl. I LOVE the mercury-glass votives! They are so cozy! Boho Cottage Kitchen

In my kitchen I added some fall fun in a few different ways. I corralled some oranges, pumpkins, a candle and some sunny sunflowers on our island.

I also created a warm little display near the stove by elevating a plaid pumpkin, the YUMMIEST candle from my friend at @sparrowcandleconcrete. Check out her shop. She creates handmade candles that smell SO good! I added my copper measuring spoons and elevated everything on a cake plate. My kitchen smells SO amazing!

Boho Cottage Family Room

Off of the kitchen is our family room. We spend a lot of time in here. I love making it extra cozy in the fall. This year I created a little display and put it on a wooden stand. The container and flowers are from IKEA! I also made a pillow cover with the fabric I used in my dining nook.

Boho Cottage Fall Mantel

For the mantel I used an owl vase that I have had for about 10 years. I added some pretty red and orange stems and the same metallic mercury glass votives. I am obsessed with them. You can buy them at Hobby Lobby. I have all of the details on the mantel on my Boho Cottage Fall Mantel post.

We have the original 1891 mantel in the front room of our home which is now my office. I am right in the middle of a huge office makeover so my space is not ready to show off but I did decorate our little mantel. I framed a vintage owl print and then the other two frames are cards from my Pebbles Peaceful Heart collection! You can buy the sayings online through Scrapbook.com.

I love keeping my walls plain so that I can change out my colors for different seasons! Here are some easy ways to bring color to different parts of your home for fall.

Add Bright Rugs to Your Cottage Home

Rugs are an easy way to add color to ANY room in your home. I love finding rugs on sale and I switch out my rugs between rooms and bring in new rooms, depending on the season. I roll up the rugs I am not using and keep them in my shed at the top of the shed so they don’t take up much room when I am not using them.

Switch Out Pillow Covers Throughout the Year

Pillow covers are another secret weapon of mine. You can keep the pillow insert and then bring in seasonal or holiday pillow so easily throughout the year. For Fall I made some flannel plaid pillow covers to go with the Seven Pin pillow covers I am using in our family room. I have an easy 10-Minute Pillow Cover Sewing Tutorial that shows you how to make the easiest envelope-back pillow covers for any occasion.

Use Natural Elements to Add Color to Your Cottage Home

Fall is full or GORGEOUS fall colors. Bring them into your home! Add orange and yellow pumpkins, cornstalks, gourds and flowers. Pile pumpkins on your front porch, tabletops and counters. Mums are perfect to add color outside AND inside!

Add Flowers and Natural Elements in Unexpected Places

I added baskets of mums and pumpkins to our steps and I love the POP of color they add to our entryway!

Create a Mantel with Fall Leaves

Another way I incorporated natural fall colors is by cutting some live branches and putting them in a vase. I set the vase on our mantel. I also laid a branch across the mantel. I LOVE the gorgeous colors in the fall leaves this time of year.

Add Bright Fall Flowers

I love fresh flowers. I used a bright and colorful stock pot from MacKenzie-Childs on our stove. Think of using unconventional vessels, especially when displaying flowers in your kitchen. I love the way the fall flowers look in our bright pot!

Spray Paint Dollar Store Items for Fall

I love taking dollar store items and using paint to take them up a notch. This year I took the $1 foam pumpkins and spray painted them PINK. I painted the tops white and added pink and white gingham ribbon. I put those dollar store pumpkins all over the house!

I added those dollar store pumpkins on our table, along with bright flowers in an owl vase, natural pumpkins and some greenery.

Another way I used the PINK dollar store pumpkins is by creating a pretty fall centerpiece for our coffee table. I added some faux greens in a vessel and added a few of the PINK pumpkins.

Add Bright Pumpkins to Your Kitchen

We just added these open shelves in our kitchen. I use then to store spices, salt and pepper containers, baking items and glasses. I added some natural and bright pumpkins to the shelves. I also added some on the counters for COLOR.

Easy Black and White Fall Mantel with Paper Medallions and Banner

I love decorating our mantel – especially for Fall! There’s something refreshing about fall decor after a warm summer. I look forward to cooler weather, boots and cardigans, pumpkin spice lattes and pumpkins!

I gathered all of our black and white pumpkins and thought it would be fun to create a new mantel. I created some paper medallions and a paper garland with my @pebblesinc Hey! Hello! Use What You Have to Create Easy Fall Decor

The beauty of this black and white mantel idea is you can use what you have! Get your pumpkins out and supplement your fall decor with some easy paper projects!

How to I Recreate This Look if I Don’t Have a Mantel?

You definitely don’t have to have a mantel to use these ideas in your home! You can decorate a shelf or even your porch with these ideas!

Use Paper to Create Fall Decor

I made paper medallions using paper from my new Hey! Hello! line which is at JoAnn Stores right now! I have a complete tutorial on how to make Paper Medallions. I also made an easy paper banner too! I used my Banner Punch Board to make the pennant shapes and I love that it has a hole punch inside too which makes creating paper banners so easy!

How to Create an Easy Black and White Fall Mantel

I created an Instagram reel with all of the steps to create this mantel. Be sure to check it out for a quick 15 second video!

Start at the Top and Work Your Way Down

I started at the top by hanging my paper medallions over the mantel shelf. To hang the medallions I put nails in between the slats of our shiplap planks. If you don’t want to use nails, you can use command strips.

Add a Focal Point to Your Fall Mantel

I think that having a main focal point is important. I usually use a sign or mirror for the main focal point. For this mantel I used a framed chalkboard that my daughter created that says “Welcome Fall”.

Display Items at Different Heights

To add visual interest to your shelf or mantel, display things at different heights. I used white candlesticks across the mantel to display my different pumpkins. I use these white candlesticks all year round. They are one of my favorite things!

Fill Your Mantel In with Greenery or a Garland

I added a black and white felted ball garland across the mantel to connect all of the candlesticks. You can also use a leaf garland or stems.

Hang a Paper Banner

I created an easy banner with my paper and the Banner Punch Board. I made the garland long enough that I could cut it in half so there are two banners. To secure the banner I put one end of the twine under a candlestick on both ends of the mantel.

Add Festive Items to the Bottom of the Fireplace

To tie everything together I added some pumpkins to the hearth at the bottom of the fireplace. I also added a black and white throw blanket and pumpkin to the chair next to the fireplace. I love the way it looks!

Why I Love Using Paper Medallions on My Mantel

I use paper medallions all the time for different occasions and holidays. You can make the paper medallions any color to match your decor. Paper medallions are inexpensive to make. Plus paper medallions take up a lot of space so they really make a statement on a budget!
