The holiday season is upon us, and what better way to spread joy and warmth than by gifting your friends and neighbors a touch of Christmas magic for their homes? I shared the Hygge gift boxes I am taking around to my friends and neighbors on December 1st, and I had so many questions about how to make the DIY Potpourri Jars I included in the boxes. So here’s a little tutorial. these DIY Holiday Potpourri Jars are not only easy to make but also a delightful present that will have everyone talking about the wonderful scents wafting through their homes.

How to Dry Citrus Slices:

Before we dive into creating these charming jars, let’s start with the heart of the potpourri—the dried orange and lemon slices. This step adds a personal touch to your gift and infuses the potpourri with a burst of citrusy goodness.

1. Slice Citrus: Begin by cutting 5-6 slices each of oranges and lemons. Aim for uniform thickness to ensure even drying.
2. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C).
3. Arrange on a Tray: Place the citrus slices on a parchment-lined baking tray, ensuring they are not touching each other. This allows for proper air circulation.
4. Slow and Low: Dry the slices in the preheated oven for 2-3 hours, turning them halfway through. The slow and low method helps preserve the vibrant colors and essential oils.
5. Check for Dryness: The slices are ready when they are mostly dry but still a bit flexible. Remember, they will continue to dry as they cool.

How to Create Holiday Potpourri Jars:

Now that you have your dried citrus slices, let’s assemble these delightful jars of holiday cheer.

Ingredients (per jar):

(Multiply this list by how many jars you want to make up)

• 5-6 slices of oranges and lemons
• 8 star anise
• 2 to 3 bay leaves
• 2 to 3 sprigs of rosemary
• 3 cinnamon sticks
• 1/2 cup cranberries
• 1/2 tablespoon whole allspice

Assembly:

1. Layering: Begin by layering the ingredients in an 8-ounce jar. The order is flexible, but a visually appealing arrangement is part of the gift’s charm.
2. Citrus Slices: Start with the dried orange and lemon slices, placing them along the sides of the jar for a decorative touch.
3. Aromatic Spices: Add the star anise, bay leaves, rosemary sprigs, cinnamon sticks, and whole allspice. The combination of these aromatic elements will create a symphony of scents reminiscent of a winter wonderland.
4. Finishing Touch: Top off the jar with cranberries for a pop of color and an additional burst of fragrance.

Candy Coal Recipe:
(you will need parchment paper and a candy thermometer for this recipe)

Ingredients-

• 1/2 cup Light Corn Syrup
• 2 cups Granulated Sugar
• Water
• Black Food Coloring (optional)
• 1/2 teaspoon Flavor Extract (optional)

Directions-

• Combine corn syrup, water and sugar in a medium saucepan on medium/high heat.
• Use a candy thermometer and boil mixture until the temperature reaches hard crack (305 degrees).
• Once it reaches 305 degrees immediately remove the candy from the burner and stir in food coloring and flavor extract.
• Immediately pour into a parchment paper lined 9×9 pan. Work quickly as the candy will start to harden right away.
• Allow the candy to cool and harden. Once the candy has completely cooled gently tap with a meat tenderizer to break into candy size pieces.

You can dust the candy with a bit of confectioners sugar to keep it from sticking to one another and store in an airtight container.

You never know when this coal candy might come in handy! Convince your kiddos Santa dropped it off and they might just clean their room for once. Who is getting coal at your house this year?

I have a good friend who happens to be a big-time magazine lover. One year for her birthday, I bought her a big stack of magazines, but I wanted to deliver the gift in a personal and thoughtful way. That is when I thought of the perfect idea!

You know those Candy Bar Posters that use the names of candy bars in sentences to create a card-like gift for a friend or loved one?

“Hi SWEETHEART. You are such a BIG HUNK. Thanks for being my LIFESAVER“

…. we’ve all seen these, right?

I decided to use this same concept, but instead of candy bars, I’d write a note to my friend using magazine titles- perfect!!!

This simple gift idea for a friend is easy to throw together and would be a good present for any holiday, any friend and would fit any budget! Here is what I did:

First, I grabbed about 10 magazines that I knew my friend would love to read.

Next, I wrote a thoughtful letter with her in-mind. I mentioned favorite memories I had of the 2 of us together, things I love about her etc. I added titles to magazines where they fit.

Here are some of the things I said in the letter, (most of the personal stuff has been taken out to protect our dignity- ha ha!) but this should give you an idea of how you could re-create this for someone you love:

It seems like just yesterday we were SEVENTEEN and the two of US were hanging out all the TIME and becoming great friends! Let’s TRAVEL down memory lane, shall we?

Remember our trip to the lake in the summer of ’97? LIVING on a houseboat for a week with a clogged toilet was awesome! That was my first (and only) time water-skiing. Swallowing half the lake and getting the biggest wedgie of my LIFE was not the HIGHLIGHT of the trip for me!

Girl’s Camp that summer was OK! I’m not a huge fan of Girl’s Camp nor do I like living in scenes straight out of NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC but I have good memories of the time we spent together- and I think I could still perform the dance we made up for skit night.

Now that we are PARENTS, we have entered a NEW ERA in life that isn’t always full of GLAMOUR. But I am grateful that we are in this journey of motherhood together and I appreciate you more and more EVERYDAY.

I could go on and on about memories and things I love about being your FRIEND, but I’ll keep it short and REAL SIMPLE: I’m grateful for ALL YOU have ever done for me- the laughs, the support, the phone calls and the advice. These are things I wouldn’t trade for all the MONEY in the world! You’re the kind of person PEOPLE love to be around and I feel FORTUNE(ate) to call you my best friend. Even though our HOMES & GARDENS are states apart, I thank my lucky STARs we have been able to stay IN TOUCH. I’m glad you decided to marry Mike and not RANGER RICK so the 2 of us can run in the same FAMILY CIRCLE. I love your guts and hope that at age 33 you still feel YOUNG AND MODERN.

(I didn’t include every magazine I mentioned in the stack that I gave her- that would have been expensive and would take me forever to find all those titles!)

Lastly, I placed the letter on top of the stack of magazines and tied it up with some ribbon. That’s it!!!!

Unless my friend is a good actress, (which is possible ’cause she is good at pretty much everything!) this gift was a great success! She definitely seemed to love it, and the smile on her face as she read the letter was pretty fantastic.

Here’s what you need to make your own Christmas Light Treat Boxes!

Cricut cutting machine

Cardstock

Glue

Washi tape

Christmas candy

I used my Cricut Explore to cut these light boxes out. The scoring pen worked great to create the scored lines used to assemble the treat box. I used image #M4284D from the Tags Bags Boxes and More 2 cartridge.

Once the image is cut, you will want to fold along the scored lines.

Glue the bottom part of the light together first.

This creates a cone. Fill with the Christmas candy of your choosing. I used Holiday M&Ms.

Then glue the upper part of the light box together.

Once it is glued shut, wrap the top of the “light” with silver washi tape to give it an authentic look.

That’s it! Super easy and super cute!

Fits easily in stockings or can be tied and used as a gift tag!

Lucky for all of us, this recipe makes plenty (about 250 mints) so you have enough to give away and still have some left over to eat yourself… while hiding in a closet so no one knows how many you ate.

Ingredients:

• 1 (8oz) brick of cream cheese; room temperature
• 2 tbsp butter; room temperature
• 1 tsp peppermint extract
• 4 1/2 – 5 cups powdered sugar
• food coloring

Directions:

1. Line a large baking sheet with wax paper. (Do as I say, not as I did… my bad.) Set aside.
2. Using a stand mixer or a hand mixer, combine cream cheese and butter. Once well combined, add in peppermint extract.
3. Slowly add powdered sugar 1/2 cup at a time until thick. The mixture should be stiff enough to hold a peak and not wilt when the mixer is off. This is normally in the 4 1/2 to 5 cups of powdered sugar range.
4. Add food coloring to cream cheese mixture until desired color is reached. If doing multiple colors, divide cream cheese and then dye. (My mints required 1 drop of red and 3 drops of green.)
5. Put cream cheese mixture into a piping bag fitted with a medium star tip and drop nickel sized amounts on lined baking sheet. (To make the “kiss” shape, hold tip 1/2-inch above the baking sheet, squeeze bag until circumference is about that of a nickel, and then pull up quickly.)
6. Place tray in freezer for 2 hours to allow the mints to firm up. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

I placed my mints in a mason jar to give to neighbors.

Tie off the jars with a little baker’s twine and these tags I whipped up and you are set to give them as a gift!

I’m always looking for fun ways to wrap small gifts, whether they’re for neighbors, my husbands staff or even the paper guy.

These DIY Stamped Holiday Burlap Bags were so easy and I think you’re going to LOVE them!

DIY Stamped Holiday Burlap Gift Bags

Of course the bags alone with a festive ribbon are perfect all on their own, but if you’re a DIY kind of person like myself, I just can’t leave things alone. I just have to put my own stamp on it…… no pun intended.

I’m Kim from Today’s Creative Blog and InspirationDIY, where I share all the things you love. Home Decor, DIY, Crafting, Free Printables and Recipes. I don’t like anything that seems too difficult since my attention span is like a toddler. But I do love creating!

I found my burlap bags online, but you may be able to find them at your local craft store or at least something comparable. Small cotton bags work well too.

Supply List:

• Burlap or Cotton Bags
• Holiday Theme Foam Stamps
• Foam Paint Brush
• Acrylic Paints
• Twine
• Printable Holiday Gift Tags (found on Today’s Creative Blog)

1. I placed a piece of cardstock inside my bag, just in case the paint bled through.
2. Coat your stamp with the paint
3. Position it and press onto your bag. If needed, take a small paint brush and fill in any area that doesn’t look well coated.
4. Tie bakers twine (any ribbon works) along with a holiday gift tag

This craft was so easy and quick. It was dry in about 10 minutes. Total craft time was less than 30 minutes.

Now that’s my kind of crafting and wrapping!

Today we’re sharing a free printable template to turn bottles of nail polish into a thoughtful but super-easy gift that women from tweens to adults will like. Make up a bunch to be ready when you need them.

Thought we’d also mention that this project coordinates with our Winter Wonderland free printable phrases. If you’re looking for a more substantial gift, print and frame them to give with the nail polish. Are you hosting a holiday gathering? You could decorate with the phrases and give the nail polish as party favors.

TO MAKE: Download our free Nail Polish Christmas Gift Tag template and print on cardstock. Cut out each tag and use a craft knife to cut out the inner circle. Slip over the lid of the nail polish bottle. If desired, tie on a couple bells, using twine or ribbon, to make your gift even more festive.

Today I’m sharing a 5-minute neighbor gift idea. It’s hot chocolate in a mug and this seriously couldn’t be easier!

Supplies:

• Mug (mine was from IKEA)
• Sharpie, fine tip
• Hot chocolate mix
• Mini marshmallows
• Plastic favor bag
• Twine
• Optional: paper straws or wooden spoon

Sharpie mugs are a great gift and really easy. First I just practiced my handwriting on a scrap paper until I came up with a style I liked. Then I just drew it free-hand onto the mug. Let it dry overnight. Then you bake it in by placing in a cold oven and baking for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Turn off the oven and let it cool completely before removing. Also I recommend washing by hand rather than in a dishwasher.

After it’s ready, put the plastic party favor bag in the mug and open it up. Fill it up to the brim with hot chocolate mix, then top with mini marshmallows. Close it up with some baker’s twine and add in some straws and a spoon if you want. I like the way it looks!

This 5 minute hot chocolate gift is seriously the world’s easiest gift! Give it to your neighbors, teachers, or anyone who could use a bit of holiday cheer.
