I am a big fan of helping kids learn life skills. And one of the most important ones, I think, is learning to prepare meals. It’s more than just learning to cook. It’s being able to plan out a meal — entree, side and dessert, decide what ingredients we have on hand, what we need to buy at the store and then preparing the meal and cleaning it all up in the end. I also think it gives kids the perspective to see how much things cost as well as how much effort it takes to put a nice meal together.

For many years I have been using The Food Nanny’s cookbook and strategy with my family. So with school starting and all the craziness of a new school year, I knew I wanted to get this tradition started again with my family. And I thought it would be great to have a central place to keep the menu board so everyone in the family knows what the menu schedule is for each week. So I created a weekly menu planner (back to school free printable)!

I am so grateful to be moved into the #1905Cottage and get ready for a new school year with the kids!! I took a cabinet that I had in my previous bedroom and repurposed it into a buffet for my dining room. I have my cake plate collection on shelves above the buffet and I keep placemats, napkins and linens in the drawers for easy dining access. So I thought this area would be perfect for my printable. And to make things easy, I printed the big 11×14 (a frameable size) on my Canon PIXMA iP8720 Crafting Printer.

I framed it in an 11×14 frame so the kids can use dry erase markers on it.

This is how it works:

• Every Sunday we plan out the menu. I have an assortment of cookbooks everyone can go through.

• Each person chooses a day of the week and writes their name on their day.

• Then they select a meal – main course, side and a dessert and write that on the menu board.
• Once they have a meal they want to prepare, they see what we have on hand in the fridge and pantry and then write down the ingredients we need to purchase at the store.
• We have a couple days a week that are free days – one where we go out to eat or order take out food. And another that is for leftovers.

I have found that this method really helps the household run smoother. PLUS, the kids get really excited when it is their day to cook. Sometimes they invite a friend over to help prepare the food and enjoy it.

It’s one of my favorite things! Here are the printables. All you need to do is print them off, trim them and put them inside a frame with glass. You can use regular dry erase markers to write and then simply wipe the writing off at the end of each week and start new!!

I’ve provided them in three styles and two sizes. If you have a regular-sized printer, you can use the 8×10 sizes. If you have a printer that prints bigger prints like the Canon PIXMA iP8720 Crafting Printer, I’ve included 11×14 sizes (to match a regular 11×14 frame). Sometimes it’s hard to be a girl! Have you ever felt like that?? Especially when you are a tween or teen. I have a daughter who had the hardest time finding outfits to wear that she loved. And it made her late for school almost every single day. So we came up with this idea – a Look Book. Organizing with Photos – Tween Look Book Printables.

I think this idea would be great for anyone really. You know how you feel when you have an outfit on that you feel really good about? Snap a photo of yourself. Then you print out the photos and put them in a little album. This album is actually made for Insagram and you print your outfit photos out in 4×4 sizes.

Then there’s a printable sheet where you can write about what you have on and put it in the album next to the outfit photo. Ella did this with her wardrobe and it’s cut out a lot of outfit worries. There are a few different printables that you can choose from for your album. You just print them out, add your outfit photos, write about the outfits and put in the date. And then keep the album in your closet. So the next time you are looking for a cute outfit to wear – just flip through the album and pick out those clothes and you are set!

This album idea also makes an AWESOME birthday gift for your daughter’s twee/teen friends. Put the album together and all they have to do is take pictures and add some comments to their album.

I’ve also included a big We What You Love poster-sized printable. It’s perfect to hang up in your daughter’s room. And you can print it out on the  Canon PIXMA iP8720 Crafting Printer.

I have a little obsessions with donuts. They are so round and cute! I thought it would be fun to make a happy sprinkles donut printable for Spring. Donuts with Sprinkles Printables.

Did you know that donuts can be spelled several different ways? Most people consider donuts to be a fried confectionery treat.  They’ve been around since the early 1800’s and come in all different sizes and shapes. In fact, almost every country in the world has their own way of making donuts. One thing I am sure of is that they are delicious!!

Print a few off and frame them and give them to a friend or as a birthday gift. How cute would it be to give your friend this framed donut printable along with a box of donuts for her birthday??? Love it!! I also think it looks adorable framed in my kitchen.

I love family history and teaching my children about their heritage. My friend and neighbor Amy Dott showed me a really cool family generation framed print that her mom had created abut 20 years ago. I loved the idea and thought wouldn’t it be cool to blow up the pictures of her ancestors and really showing them off in a gallery wall? Family Generations Gallery Wall and Printables.

I created some family definition printables that go along with this idea of a family generations gallery  wall. Black with white letters, white with black letters and big sizes that I printed on my Canon PIXMA Crafting Printer.

I printed the Be Bright printable in a large size with my  Canon PIXMA iP8720 Crafting Printer. I love being able to print large sizes for my home!

I think the black and white colors are fresh and clean to welcome a new year. I’ve found that having a Word of the Year gives me purpose for the year and is more effective for me than resolutions. It’s really fun to think about goals I would like to achieve for the year and what work would enable those goals to be met.

And I have a bit of a buffalo check obsession right now. So I thought it would be fun to put my word on the buffalo plaid check background. I also created two coordinating words that kind of support my main word too. TRUE and YOU. And I’ve included those free printables below as well.

Here’s what I’ve been discovering:

I’ve been using DSLRs for several years, but I’ve always found them hard to use. I’m busy enough that I can never get the settings “dialed in” the way I want! But I’ve loved using this Canon EOS Rebel SL1. I’ve watched a bunch of the how-to videos in the digital learning center at learn.usa.canon.com.

I’m loving a bunch of the camera features I’ll show you in a moment – but check out the awesome in this printer! You won’t believe the size of paper it can use:

Yes, you’re seeing that right: it’s 13 x 19 inches (I’m holding a package of the fancy Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy II).

Did you see my memorial project a couple of weeks ago? Here’s a little video I shot with my friends at My Craft Channel telling a little more about a project I made with my Canon PIXMA iP8720 Crafting Printer.

One of my favorite parts about this printer is how it saves me from having to go to a commercial printer to print larger printables. Plus, the cool 13 x 19 inch paper is available in all kinds of finishes, from matte to shiny! And the color is great, too.

I’m just scratching the surface with the Canon camera, but here are a few of my favorite features I’ve discovered while working with the easy-to-use touchscreen.

Creative filters make it easy and fun to add effects to my snapshots as I’m taking them – so I can take photos with the nice, high-resolution regular modes, and then add other tricks like soft focus or …

the water painting effect (like watercolors), above, and …

I can even add a fish-eye lens effect to my photos right on the camera. In fact, the right-on-the-camera abilities are my favorites, like this:

Yeah, that’s an on-camera resize mode! While I have a workflow set up to process my blog pictures, it’s sure nice to be able to just resize them as I go for use on the blog, on social media, and so forth. I don’t have to mess with another photo editing program, app or site.

And I’ve been playing with the cool HD video capabilities, too!
