<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><b>Here&#8217;s what you need:</b></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"></div>
<p><!--more--></p>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">foam core board (available at craft stores)</div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">newspaper</div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">burlap (4 feet long&#8211; cut into 2 4-inch long sections &#8212; you will have burlap left over)</div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Brown coffee filters (about 15-20)</div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">tan ribbon (60 inches)</div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">brown organza ribbon (40 inches)</div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">hot glue gun and glue sticks</div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;"><a style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S2tM4_rFcPI/AAAAAAAAITA/zFaC6pVpPcA/s1600-h/foam+board.jpg"><img decoding="async" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S2tM4_rFcPI/AAAAAAAAITA/zFaC6pVpPcA/s320/foam+board.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"></div>
<ul style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
<li>The first thing to do is draw the heart on your foam core board. I used an old piece of foam core that I had used previously as a sign.</li>
</ul>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;"><a style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S2tNAbZg4JI/AAAAAAAAITI/CTHhtZOuHOs/s1600-h/Valentine+coffee+filter+burlap+dorr+hanging+002.jpg"><img decoding="async" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S2tNAbZg4JI/AAAAAAAAITI/CTHhtZOuHOs/s320/Valentine+coffee+filter+burlap+dorr+hanging+002.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a></div>
<ul style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
<li> Use an exacto knife to cut the heart out of the foam core. It does not need to be perfectly smooth.</li>
<li>Take your newspaper and rip a couple pages into strips. I used the notice section of the newspaper that has smaller print.</li>
</ul>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;"><a style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S2tNQZGikiI/AAAAAAAAITQ/7BIa2dROoCI/s1600-h/Valentine+coffee+filter+burlap+dorr+hanging+003.jpg"><img decoding="async" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S2tNQZGikiI/AAAAAAAAITQ/7BIa2dROoCI/s320/Valentine+coffee+filter+burlap+dorr+hanging+003.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a></div>
<ul style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
<li>Lay the newspaper out over the heart to see where you want to place the strips.</li>
<li>Use Mod Podge to attach the newspaper to the foam core board. I applied a coat to the entire heart and then laid the pieces of newspaper on top of the mod podge. I did several layers for a more layered look. Don&#8217;t be afraid if the newspaper gets a little wrinkled, this adds character to the project.</li>
</ul>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;"><a style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S2tNeebp58I/AAAAAAAAITY/gqKQOWorw20/s1600-h/Valentine+coffee+filter+burlap+dorr+hanging+005.jpg"><img decoding="async" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S2tNeebp58I/AAAAAAAAITY/gqKQOWorw20/s320/Valentine+coffee+filter+burlap+dorr+hanging+005.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a></div>
<ul style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
<li>Once you have the newspaper applied to the heart, put another layer of Mod Podge over the top and let it dry.</li>
</ul>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;"><a style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S2tNqyRu2UI/AAAAAAAAITg/boxq1BlCfqw/s1600-h/Valentine+coffee+filter+burlap+dorr+hanging+006.jpg"><img decoding="async" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S2tNqyRu2UI/AAAAAAAAITg/boxq1BlCfqw/s320/Valentine+coffee+filter+burlap+dorr+hanging+006.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a></div>
<ul style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
<li>Then take the tan ribbon and measure around the edges of your heart. Cut the ribbon a little longer than what you think you will need. Use a hot glue gun to attach the ribbon to the edges of the foam board.</li>
</ul>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;"></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;"></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;"></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;"></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;"><a style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S2tN7oEH7JI/AAAAAAAAITo/YC7YwW9m-qs/s1600-h/Valentine+coffee+filter+burlap+dorr+hanging+008.jpg"><img decoding="async" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S2tN7oEH7JI/AAAAAAAAITo/YC7YwW9m-qs/s320/Valentine+coffee+filter+burlap+dorr+hanging+008.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;"> <a style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S2tO5W7PUyI/AAAAAAAAIUQ/MWTlEnLEQHI/s1600-h/Valentine+coffee+filter+burlap+dorr+hanging+007.jpg"><img decoding="async" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S2tO5W7PUyI/AAAAAAAAIUQ/MWTlEnLEQHI/s320/Valentine+coffee+filter+burlap+dorr+hanging+007.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a></div>
<ul style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
<li>Cut your burlap into 4 inch strips. Then attach the burlap to the back of the foam board heart. Start at the side of one of the curves of the heart. Apply a glue small strip of glue along the outside of the heart, lay the edge of the burlap on the glue and every 2 inches or so make a fold and glue it down so that the burlap border looks gathered. When you come to the end of the first piece of burlap, attach it to the second with your glue gun by making a seam, facing toward you and hide it in one of the folds.</li>
</ul>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;"><a style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S2tOOARlQzI/AAAAAAAAITw/4Ls4ps21aCU/s1600-h/Valentine+coffee+filter+burlap+dorr+hanging+009.jpg"><img decoding="async" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S2tOOARlQzI/AAAAAAAAITw/4Ls4ps21aCU/s320/Valentine+coffee+filter+burlap+dorr+hanging+009.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a></div>
<ul style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
<li>Turn the heart back over so the front is facing up. Take one of the brown coffee filers and scrunch it up from the middle, pulling the middle down and flattering it at the bottom so the top of the coffee filter looks like a flower. Apply the first coffee filter to the place where you want the point of your heart to be. Then apply the other coffee filter flowers to the board, placing a dot of glue on the board and pushing down on the base of the flower. Keep the coffee filters close together with no gaps. Make your heart as big as you like.</li>
</ul>

<p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">I just love this time of year!</span></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-64312 aligncenter" src="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/fall-burlap-wall-hanging-at-tatertots-and-jello.jpg" alt="fall burlap wall hanging at tatertots and jello" width="650" height="981" srcset="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/fall-burlap-wall-hanging-at-tatertots-and-jello.jpg 650w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/fall-burlap-wall-hanging-at-tatertots-and-jello-199x300.jpg 199w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/fall-burlap-wall-hanging-at-tatertots-and-jello-99x150.jpg 99w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/fall-burlap-wall-hanging-at-tatertots-and-jello-640x966.jpg 640w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/fall-burlap-wall-hanging-at-tatertots-and-jello-150x226.jpg 150w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px" /></p>
<p>This month, as part of the <a href="http://blog.michaels.com/michaels-makers" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Michaels Makers team</a>, we were asked to create something for Autumn. So I headed over to Michaels store for some inspiration. One of the first things I saw were these small metal letters in the new RAW section. I loved them. And I thought the metal would look great against the texture of burlap. So I picked up a canvas and some burlap from Michaels fabric section.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-64313 aligncenter" src="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/burlap-and-metal-letter-fall-sign-tutorial-at-tatertots-and-jello.jpg" alt="burlap and metal letter fall sign tutorial at tatertots and jello" width="649" height="980" srcset="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/burlap-and-metal-letter-fall-sign-tutorial-at-tatertots-and-jello.jpg 649w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/burlap-and-metal-letter-fall-sign-tutorial-at-tatertots-and-jello-99x150.jpg 99w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/burlap-and-metal-letter-fall-sign-tutorial-at-tatertots-and-jello-198x300.jpg 198w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 649px) 100vw, 649px" /></p>
<p>And as I was putting the project together, I decided that bringing a natural element would be pretty. So I took a branch from my backyard and attached it to the canvas. I used my Cricut Explorer machine to cut out leaves and I used my new <a href="http://crlyy.jyqjz.servertrust.com/searchresults.asp?cat=2646" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"><strong>American Craft Home+Made Paper</strong></a> for the leaves! I found the acorns on the trail I run on every day.</p>

<p>I hung the Fall Wall Art over the little banquet at the #1905Cottage. I think it&#8217;s so pretty with the gold polka dots.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-64316 aligncenter" src="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/leaves-and-acorn-details-.jpg" alt="leaves and acorn details" width="650" height="981" srcset="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/leaves-and-acorn-details-.jpg 650w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/leaves-and-acorn-details--99x150.jpg 99w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/leaves-and-acorn-details--198x300.jpg 198w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px" /></p>
<p>Here&#8217;s the simple tutorial:</p>
<p>1. I wrapped the canvas with the burlap fabric. I used a staple gun to attach the fabric to the back of the canvas.</p>
<p>2. I glued the letters onto the canvas.</p>
<p>3. Then I glued the branch to the top of the canvas.</p>
<p>4, I used my Cricut Explorer machine to cut out leaves from my new <a href="http://crlyy.jyqjz.servertrust.com/searchresults.asp?cat=2646" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"><strong>Home+Made American Crafts paper line</strong></a>.</p>
<p>5. Then I glued the leaves onto the branch and glued the acorns too.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-64318 aligncenter" src="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/metal-and-burlap-fall-wall-hanging-at-tatertots-and-jello.jpg" alt="metal and burlap fall wall hanging at tatertots and jello" width="650" height="981" srcset="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/metal-and-burlap-fall-wall-hanging-at-tatertots-and-jello.jpg 650w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/metal-and-burlap-fall-wall-hanging-at-tatertots-and-jello-99x150.jpg 99w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/metal-and-burlap-fall-wall-hanging-at-tatertots-and-jello-198x300.jpg 198w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px" /></p>

<p>When we remodeled our kitchen, I left a couple doors off a cabinet by my sink. I love decorating that area for different seasons and holidays.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-51963" src="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/summer-open-shelves-tatertots-and-jello.jpg" alt="summer open shelves tatertots and jello" width="650" height="431" srcset="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/summer-open-shelves-tatertots-and-jello.jpg 650w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/summer-open-shelves-tatertots-and-jello-300x199.jpg 300w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/summer-open-shelves-tatertots-and-jello-150x99.jpg 150w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/summer-open-shelves-tatertots-and-jello-640x424.jpg 640w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px" /></p>
<p>And with the warmer weather, it has really got me in the mood for summer. So the other day I decided to change up that little section of my home.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-51994" src="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/open-shelves-decorated-for-summer.jpg" alt="open shelves decorated for summer" width="600" height="906" srcset="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/open-shelves-decorated-for-summer.jpg 600w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/open-shelves-decorated-for-summer-99x150.jpg 99w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/open-shelves-decorated-for-summer-198x300.jpg 198w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 20px;">Here&#8217;s what I did to change up this little area of my kitchen: </span></p>
<p><span id="more-51961"></span></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-51964" src="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/summer-open-shelves-collage.jpg" alt="summer open shelves collage" width="500" height="862" srcset="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/summer-open-shelves-collage.jpg 500w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/summer-open-shelves-collage-87x150.jpg 87w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/summer-open-shelves-collage-174x300.jpg 174w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px" /></p>
<ul>
<li><span style="line-height: 12.986111640930176px;">I took the shelves out of the cabinet and took the beadboard backing out. </span></li>
<li>Then I took a length of muslin and covered the beadboard with it. I attached the material to the beadboard with duct tape on the back.</li>
<li>I covered the muslin with burlap and attached it to the board with duct tape.</li>
<li>Then I put the board in the back of the cabinet and then put the shelves back in.</li>
</ul>
<p>Once the shelved were put back, then the fun began!</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-51965" src="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/tatertots-and-jello-open-shelves-summer-.jpg" alt="tatertots and jello open shelves summer" width="650" height="981" srcset="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/tatertots-and-jello-open-shelves-summer-.jpg 650w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/tatertots-and-jello-open-shelves-summer--99x150.jpg 99w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/tatertots-and-jello-open-shelves-summer--198x300.jpg 198w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px" /></p>
<p style="text-align: center;">I love using this space to display my white cake plates. They look so pretty against any background.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-51966" src="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/summer-kitchen-open-shelves-at-Tatertots-and-Jello.jpg" alt="summer kitchen open shelves at Tatertots and Jello" width="650" height="431" srcset="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/summer-kitchen-open-shelves-at-Tatertots-and-Jello.jpg 650w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/summer-kitchen-open-shelves-at-Tatertots-and-Jello-150x99.jpg 150w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/summer-kitchen-open-shelves-at-Tatertots-and-Jello-300x198.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px" /></p>
<p style="text-align: center;">I found the pie window saying at World Market.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">The crate is also from World Market.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">I potted a couple of suculents in some small bowls and I put the on top of a piece of wood that I put on top of a cake plate.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-51969" src="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/wood-cake-plate-for-summer-at-tatertots-and-jello.jpg" alt="wood cake plate for summer at tatertots and jello" width="650" height="431" srcset="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/wood-cake-plate-for-summer-at-tatertots-and-jello.jpg 650w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/wood-cake-plate-for-summer-at-tatertots-and-jello-150x99.jpg 150w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/wood-cake-plate-for-summer-at-tatertots-and-jello-300x198.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px" /></p>
<p style="text-align: center;">The plate and little striped bowls are also from World Market.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-51992" src="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/open-summer-kitchen-shelves-at-tatertots-and-jello.jpg" alt="open summer kitchen shelves at tatertots and jello" width="600" height="906" srcset="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/open-summer-kitchen-shelves-at-tatertots-and-jello.jpg 600w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/open-summer-kitchen-shelves-at-tatertots-and-jello-99x150.jpg 99w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/open-summer-kitchen-shelves-at-tatertots-and-jello-198x300.jpg 198w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></p>
<p style="text-align: center;">I think the burlap really looks beachy. And I love the texture that the burlap gives to the background.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-51967" src="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/open-summer-shelves-in-the-kitchen-at-tatertots-and-jello.jpg" alt="open summer shelves in the kitchen at tatertots and jello" width="650" height="981" srcset="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/open-summer-shelves-in-the-kitchen-at-tatertots-and-jello.jpg 650w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/open-summer-shelves-in-the-kitchen-at-tatertots-and-jello-99x150.jpg 99w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/open-summer-shelves-in-the-kitchen-at-tatertots-and-jello-198x300.jpg 198w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px" /></p>
<p style="text-align: center;">I have a tray that I keep on my counter and I keep my flour, sugar and salt on it. I love the chalkboard labels. I bought those a few months ago at Target.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: 24px;">This space really makes me smile. And I am SO excited for Summer!! </span></p>

<p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: 24px;">I know I have an addiction to pillows &#8212; I can&#8217;t help it!!</span></p>
<p style="text-align: center;">I love making pillow covers. It&#8217;s a really inexpensive way to update a space and decorate for different seasons or holidays.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/material-girls-heart-pillow.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter  wp-image-48347" title="material girls heart pillow" src="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/material-girls-heart-pillow-768x1024.jpg" alt="" width="538" height="717" srcset="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/material-girls-heart-pillow-768x1024.jpg 768w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/material-girls-heart-pillow-112x150.jpg 112w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/material-girls-heart-pillow-225x300.jpg 225w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/material-girls-heart-pillow.jpg 1920w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 538px) 100vw, 538px" /></a></p>
<p>So when I was out and about on Friday, looking for cute fabric for projects, I saw a really cute pillow at <a href="http://www.thematerialgirlsquilting.com/">Material Girls in South Jordan</a>. A burlap pillow with felt hearts and pom poms. Cute!!</p>
<p>I thought about the pillow all day and on Saturday I decided that I really wanted to make one. Of course I had to make a few changes and make it my own. I used white pom poms and a row of white hearts down the center. And then I also made a smaller pillow with one big heart with three layers of felt.</p>
<p><a href="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/valentine-heart-pillows.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-48348" title="valentine heart pillows" src="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/valentine-heart-pillows.jpg" alt="" width="600" height="906" srcset="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/valentine-heart-pillows.jpg 600w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/valentine-heart-pillows-99x150.jpg 99w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/valentine-heart-pillows-198x300.jpg 198w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p><strong>I made the pillows as pillow covers so I could insert pillow forms I already had. And that way I can just take them off and store them in my Valentine&#8217;s Day bin and get them out again next year.</strong> I estimated the cost on these pillows and I made them for just a few dollars each. The felt I bought at the craft store in squares &#8211; they are .25 cents each. The burlap was $3 per yard and I used less than a yard for both pillows. The most expensive part was the pom poms. I bought the large pom poms by the yard at Hobby Lobby. And one nice thing about Hobby Lobby is that you can use your smart phone to look up their online coupon. So I was able to get 40% off the total length of the pom poms. Yay!</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s how to make the pillows:</p>
<p><span id="more-48344"></span></p>
<p><a href="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/heart-pompom-pillow.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-48345" title="heart pompom pillow" src="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/heart-pompom-pillow.jpg" alt="" width="650" height="650" srcset="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/heart-pompom-pillow.jpg 650w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/heart-pompom-pillow-150x150.jpg 150w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/heart-pompom-pillow-300x300.jpg 300w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/heart-pompom-pillow-90x90.jpg 90w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/heart-pompom-pillow-50x50.jpg 50w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px" /></a></p>
<p>1. I measured my pillow form and added  inch to each side for a big seam allowance. You will see why it&#8217;s so big in a minute.</p>
<p>2. I cut out the fabric. Since I used an envelope enclosure. Here&#8217;s a <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wc3ZaokODrs"><strong>video tutorial</strong></a> that will show you how to make them.</p>
<p>3. Then I cut out the hearts. I experimented with a piece of paper to see how big and the shape of the heart I wanted to make. Once I had the right shape, I traced it onto the felt. Since I made two rows of red hearts with three hearts on each row and the hearts were doubled &#8212; I cut out 12 red hearts and 6 white hearts. The hearts that go on top of the other hearts are a little bit smaller. I just took the second layer of hearts and cut them down about 1/8 of an inch on all sides.</p>
<p>4. Then I pinned the pom poms onto the front of the pillow cover, leaving about 1/2 inch of burlap behind the pom poms. Make sure to lay the pom poms so that they lay facing outwards, not inwards.</p>
<p>5. Then I sewed the pom poms onto the front of the pillow.</p>
<p>6. Once the pom poms were attached, I layed out the hearts and pinned one heart to each place. The hearts will be double when you are done, but you want to sew the first heart on and then attach the second heart on top of that one in a minute.</p>
<p>7. I sewed each heart onto the pillow, in three rows. I used small stitches on my machine and sewed very close to the outside of the felt heart.</p>
<p>8. Once the hearts were on, I pinned the second heart on top of the first. Then I sewed the second hearts on. Instead of sewing around the whole heart, I sewed a straight line down the center, attaching the outside heart to the inside and the burlap layer underneath.</p>
<p>9. When all of the hearts were sewed on, then I attached the back panels to the top. I layed the front of the pillow facing up, and then layed the back panels ontop of the front panel, right sides up. Then I pinned the two together, tucking the pom poms into the inside.</p>
<p>10. Then I sewed the pillow together. Since it&#8217;s an envelope enclosure, all I had to do once it was sewn was to pop it right side out by bringing the right sides through the opening in the back enclosure. And then I put the pillow form inside.</p>
<p><a href="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/valentine-burlap-felt-and-pom-pom-pillows.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-48349" title="valentine burlap felt and pom pom pillows" src="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/valentine-burlap-felt-and-pom-pom-pillows.jpg" alt="" width="650" height="431" srcset="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/valentine-burlap-felt-and-pom-pom-pillows.jpg 650w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/valentine-burlap-felt-and-pom-pom-pillows-150x99.jpg 150w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/valentine-burlap-felt-and-pom-pom-pillows-300x198.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px" /></a></p>
<p>The smaller pillow is almost exactly made the same way. The only difference is the size and I made the heart almost as big as the entire pillow. I also cut out three hearts instead of two.</p>
<p><a href="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/polka-dot-pom-pom-pillow.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-48350" title="polka dot pom pom pillow" src="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/polka-dot-pom-pom-pillow.jpg" alt="" width="600" height="906" srcset="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/polka-dot-pom-pom-pillow.jpg 600w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/polka-dot-pom-pom-pillow-99x150.jpg 99w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/polka-dot-pom-pom-pillow-198x300.jpg 198w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>I also made some striped pillows and a polka dot heart pillow for my couch. The polka dot pillow was super simple to make. All I did was I cut out two pieces of fabric in a heart shape. And then I added pom poms to the front of one of the pieces, leaving about 1/2 inch of fabric on the outside of the heart. Then I sewed the two pieces of fabric together, right sides together with the pom poms inside. I left about a 4 inch section of the pillow open. Then I pulled the right sides of the pillow out through the opening and stuffed the pillow with batting. Once it was filled, I hand-stitched the opening closed. The fabric I used is from Ikea and is a laminated tablecloth material, so I never have to worry about washing that pillow. I can just wipe it down! yay.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>And that&#8217;s how I add some Valentine festivity to my home on a budget. And I love how they go along with my other heart Valentine decorations &#8212;</p>
<p><a href="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/heart-specimen-art.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-48352" title="heart specimen art" src="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/heart-specimen-art.jpg" alt="" width="650" height="431" srcset="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/heart-specimen-art.jpg 650w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/heart-specimen-art-150x99.jpg 150w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/heart-specimen-art-300x198.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px" /></a></p>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://tatertotsandjello.com/tag/happy-holidays"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-thumbnail wp-image-41439" title="happy holidays" src="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/happy-holidays-150x150.png" alt="" width="150" height="150" srcset="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/happy-holidays-150x150.png 150w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/happy-holidays-90x90.png 90w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/happy-holidays.png 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Burlap is such an interesting material&#8230; one minute it&#8217;s holding a bunch of dirty potatoes and the next it&#8217;s all the rage in home decor.  I can&#8217;t even begin to explain it but I absolutely will jump on the Burlap Bandwagon!  I decided to try to make some free standing burlap trees using a classic crafting tool&#8230;. fabric stiffener!  I loved how they turned out.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here is how you make them:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wpQlInxtY7M/UJsKE60M0cI/AAAAAAAABw0/HV2wZdJeL3E/s1600/Burlap+Trees.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wpQlInxtY7M/UJsKE60M0cI/AAAAAAAABw0/HV2wZdJeL3E/s640/Burlap+Trees.jpg" alt="" width="426" height="640" border="0" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><strong>Supplies Needed:</strong></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span id="more-42794"></span></div>
<ul>
<li style="text-align: left;">Styrofoam cones, various sizes, LEAVE THE PLASTIC ON! If plastic is already off then wrap your cone in saran wrap or similar material.</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Strips of burlap</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Fabric Stiffener (I used Aleene&#8217;s brand)</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Something to protect your work surface</li>
</ul>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CMcoJdosWvw/UJsKBQ9dmwI/AAAAAAAABws/afKj5Lsd09g/s1600/Burlap+Trees+9.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CMcoJdosWvw/UJsKBQ9dmwI/AAAAAAAABws/afKj5Lsd09g/s640/Burlap+Trees+9.jpg" alt="" width="426" height="640" border="0" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Step ONE:  Wrap a burlap strip around cone to measure how long you will need.  The fabric stiffener shrinks the burlap significantly so cut them longer than you think.  Trim them to size (your hands will be messy so it&#8217;s best to cut them before you get started!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7a3qyYPMpaU/UJsJ-EhZv2I/AAAAAAAABwk/Ff7gLGt5eHI/s1600/Burlap+Trees+8.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7a3qyYPMpaU/UJsJ-EhZv2I/AAAAAAAABwk/Ff7gLGt5eHI/s640/Burlap+Trees+8.jpg" alt="" width="640" height="426" border="0" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Step TWO:  Pour fabric stiffener into old bowl and add some water to dilute.  The added water makes it much easier to work with.  Soak first burlap strip and remove excess stiffener by flattening strip with your fingers from top to the bottom and allowing it to drip back into bowl.   This keeps your strip nice and neat.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KLmDY4vPlAA/UJsJ4mPawAI/AAAAAAAABwM/rlDh7TDkkgI/s1600/Burlap+Trees+6.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KLmDY4vPlAA/UJsJ4mPawAI/AAAAAAAABwM/rlDh7TDkkgI/s640/Burlap+Trees+6.jpg" alt="" width="640" height="426" border="0" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Step THREE:  Wrap strip around base of tree.  Repeat with the remaining strips until tree is covered smoothing and arranging as you go.  It&#8217;s like paper mache!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AroN89Y2ESM/UJsJ7Deif_I/AAAAAAAABwU/AsIHaql1LH4/s1600/Burlap+Trees+7.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AroN89Y2ESM/UJsJ7Deif_I/AAAAAAAABwU/AsIHaql1LH4/s640/Burlap+Trees+7.jpg" alt="" width="426" height="640" border="0" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Secure with pins where necessary to get the look you want.  Allow to dry completely (may take overnight depending on how much stiffener you used).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JnVU-asXlF8/UJsJ1Q1alhI/AAAAAAAABwE/ik7LKQ84O3k/s1600/Burlap+Trees+5.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JnVU-asXlF8/UJsJ1Q1alhI/AAAAAAAABwE/ik7LKQ84O3k/s640/Burlap+Trees+5.jpg" alt="" width="426" height="640" border="0" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Step FOUR: (not pictured) After tree is dry, use a butter knife or other long, thin object to separate the burlap from the cone form.  It should come off fairly easy but be patient and remember to remove any pins first!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-X5QsR9H30A0/UJsJu293PDI/AAAAAAAABv0/BaaOthcpWEU/s1600/Burlap+Trees+3.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-X5QsR9H30A0/UJsJu293PDI/AAAAAAAABv0/BaaOthcpWEU/s640/Burlap+Trees+3.jpg" alt="" width="426" height="640" border="0" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">As I was doing my trees I decided to create a little frayed edge along the bottom of my strips by removing some of the cross fibers and &#8220;fluffing&#8221; the fibers as I went and allowing them to dry that way.  I thought it was a cute little detail if I do say so myself!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-S6T94XI-3bc/UJsJyQ8wTyI/AAAAAAAABv8/qJzGTsEsHEc/s1600/Burlap+Trees+4.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-S6T94XI-3bc/UJsJyQ8wTyI/AAAAAAAABv8/qJzGTsEsHEc/s320/Burlap+Trees+4.jpg" alt="" width="213" height="320" border="0" /></a><a style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wasTp4PkoLg/UJsJrNrlaMI/AAAAAAAABvs/Q1IzrSARnEk/s1600/Burlap+Trees+2.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wasTp4PkoLg/UJsJrNrlaMI/AAAAAAAABvs/Q1IzrSARnEk/s320/Burlap+Trees+2.jpg" alt="" width="213" height="320" border="0" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Step FIVE:  Arrange your burlap trees anywhere for a pretty, natural touch to your Christmas decor!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I also thought these would be nice with some Christmas lights shining out from the inside!  Battery operated tea lights would also work.  I love how it looks!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CdnVD77gZbI/UJsKH-B8tgI/AAAAAAAABw8/XkmXVqNYvCs/s1600/Burlap+trees+lights.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CdnVD77gZbI/UJsKH-B8tgI/AAAAAAAABw8/XkmXVqNYvCs/s640/Burlap+trees+lights.jpg" alt="" width="426" height="640" border="0" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">What I love about these trees is they are simple and classic.  You can add embellishments or leave them as is.  You could even spray paint them!  I also love that you can keep reusing the styrofoam cones to make as many as you like.  And it doesn&#8217;t get much cheaper than burlap so you could make a lot of them with very little money.  Wouldn&#8217;t they be pretty down the center of your Christmas dining table or along your mantle?  Lots of possibilities!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Merry Christmas and thanks for having me Jen!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>

<p>I finally got around to taking my<a href="https://tatertotsandjello.com/2012/03/vintage-door-spring-mantel-2012.html"> Spring Mantel</a> down. I loved it, but I wanted something new. I took the vintage door I used for my Spring Mantel and flipped it to the other side to decorate my Summer Mantel. Super easy!!</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/framed-brooch-and-colored-frame.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-37580" title="framed brooch and colored frame" src="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/framed-brooch-and-colored-frame.jpg" alt="" width="640" height="429" srcset="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/framed-brooch-and-colored-frame.jpg 800w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/framed-brooch-and-colored-frame-150x100.jpg 150w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/framed-brooch-and-colored-frame-300x201.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></a></p>
<p>And I am loving the <a href="http://www.facebook.com/StyledByToriSpelling"><strong>{Styled By Tori} DIY jewelry line.</strong></a> I thought it would be fun to frame some of the beautiful brooches and hang them on my vintage door. I also wrapped some burlap around a couple of blue canning jars and pinned a brooch on each. I am planning on putting fresh flowers in the jars each week during the summer. I love fresh flowers!!</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/two-mason-jars-with-brooches.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-37574" title="two mason jars with brooches" src="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/two-mason-jars-with-brooches.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="747" srcset="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/two-mason-jars-with-brooches.jpg 500w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/two-mason-jars-with-brooches-100x150.jpg 100w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/two-mason-jars-with-brooches-200x300.jpg 200w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px" /></a></p>
<p>I love the brooches in<a href="http://www.facebook.com/StyledByToriSpelling"> Tori&#8217;s {Styled By Tori} line</a> because they are  all so unique and beautiful, but they are also so affordable!! Last summer when we went to London I spent HOURS scouring the antique markets for vintage brooches &#8212; and let me tell you, they are expensive. As they should be. But if you are looking for the same kind of look at a fraction of the price, the {Styled By Tori} brooches are awesome. And this would also be a great idea if you have some family heirloom brooches that you wanted to showcase.</p>

<p><span style="font-size: 24px;">Here&#8217;s how I made the framed brooches:</span></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><span id="more-37553"></span><a href="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/cut-it-out-frames.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-37562" title="cut it out frames" src="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/cut-it-out-frames.jpg" alt="" width="400" height="598" srcset="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/cut-it-out-frames.jpg 500w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/cut-it-out-frames-100x150.jpg 100w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/cut-it-out-frames-200x300.jpg 200w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></a></p>
<ul>
<li>I used frames from <a href="http://cutitoutalready.com/">Cut It Out Frames.</a> These are the same frames I used in my Family Gallery Wall. I love the scrolly shapes!!</li>
</ul>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/add-distressed-ink1.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-37569" title="add distressed ink" src="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/add-distressed-ink1.jpg" alt="" width="350" height="523" srcset="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/add-distressed-ink1.jpg 500w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/add-distressed-ink1-100x150.jpg 100w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/add-distressed-ink1-200x300.jpg 200w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px" /></a></p>
<ul>
<li>I painted the frames and then sanded them down and applied some scrapbooking dye to the sides to make them look old. I just rubbed the ink pad all around the edges and wiped off the excess.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>I wrapped the inside cardboard with brown material and then wrapped that in burlap (the burlap&#8217;s open weave made it so that I needed to use something underneath).</li>
</ul>
<p><a href="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/framed-brooches-Styled-By-Tori.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter" title="framed brooches Styled By Tori" src="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/framed-brooches-Styled-By-Tori.jpg" alt="" width="576" height="418" /></a></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<ul>
<li>Then I put the fabric-wrapped cardboard inside of the frame.</li>
</ul>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/styled-by-tori-brooch-on-burlap1.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-37570" title="styled by tori brooch on burlap" src="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/styled-by-tori-brooch-on-burlap1.jpg" alt="" width="400" height="598" srcset="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/styled-by-tori-brooch-on-burlap1.jpg 500w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/styled-by-tori-brooch-on-burlap1-100x150.jpg 100w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/styled-by-tori-brooch-on-burlap1-200x300.jpg 200w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></a></p>
<ul>
<li>Then I pinned the brooches on the burlap. Some of the brooches come with a pin on the back, and some are made to be pendants and they have a ring on the back. If the brooch had a ring on the back, I pinned a plain pin to the burlap and pulled it through the loop, attaching it to the other side of the burlap. That way I can easily take the brooches off and make jewelry with them later without ruining them!</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>I hung the frames up on my vintage door with Command Picture Hanging Strips. I love those strips!!</li>
</ul>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/beachy-mantel-blue-jars-brooches1.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-37571" title="beachy mantel blue jars brooches" src="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/beachy-mantel-blue-jars-brooches1.jpg" alt="" width="640" height="641" srcset="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/beachy-mantel-blue-jars-brooches1.jpg 800w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/beachy-mantel-blue-jars-brooches1-150x150.jpg 150w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/beachy-mantel-blue-jars-brooches1-300x300.jpg 300w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/beachy-mantel-blue-jars-brooches1-90x90.jpg 90w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></a></p>
<p>I accessorized the mantel with an oxidized &#8220;H&#8221; I found at Hobby Lobby (50% off!!), a starfish and some lanterns I use year-round.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/beachy-mantel-brooches-1.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-37572" title="beachy mantel brooches" src="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/beachy-mantel-brooches-1.jpg" alt="" width="640" height="518" srcset="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/beachy-mantel-brooches-1.jpg 800w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/beachy-mantel-brooches-1-150x121.jpg 150w, https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/beachy-mantel-brooches-1-300x243.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></a></p>

<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
</div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><b style="color: #e06666;">I got a wonderful tip from <a href="http://lindseycheney.blogspot.com/">Lindsey @ Pleated Poppy </a>last week &#8212; she clued me in to a great place to get beautiful fabric, <a href="http://hawthornethreads.com/">Hawthorne Threads</a>.</b> They have a great selection of yummy fabric and it&#8217;s really easy to order. I was thrilled when a package came for me TWO days after I ordered!&nbsp;</div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S6zzduYAtmI/AAAAAAAAJu8/-9YAFYdirtg/s1600/fabric+hawthorne.htm" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S6zzduYAtmI/AAAAAAAAJu8/-9YAFYdirtg/s320/fabric+hawthorne.htm" width="320" /></a></div>
</div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><b><br />
</b></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><b>It was all so pretty &#8211; I didn&#8217;t want to cut any of it up.</b> I finally decided to make some little <span style="font-size: large;">Spring topiaries.</span></p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S7TfJ9EKM3I/AAAAAAAAJ3E/Ieq6EXbc3_w/s1600/better+pic.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S7TfJ9EKM3I/AAAAAAAAJ3E/Ieq6EXbc3_w/s400/better+pic.jpg" width="321" /></a></div>
<p>
I used burlap as the background and then used the pretty fabric to make fabric flowers.<b style="color: #38761d;"> They look so bright and Spring-y in my kitchen! </b>The topiary would make a cute centerpiece on your table, but I decided to make three &#8211;<i> I think everything looks better in threes, don&#8217;t you?</i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S7Tb8VQzLDI/AAAAAAAAJ1U/uY21rWVY3lQ/s1600/with+background.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img decoding="async" border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S7Tb8VQzLDI/AAAAAAAAJ1U/uY21rWVY3lQ/s576/with+background.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br />
</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: large;">If you would like to make some, here is what I did:</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
</div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;"><b>Supplies:</b></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
</div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Terra Cotta Pot(s)</div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Styrofoam ball(s)</div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Wood dowel(s)</div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">ribbon</div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Fabric scraps</div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Scrapbook paper scraps</div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Jeweled scrapbook brads</div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Moss<br />
Gorilla Glue </div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Flower arranging block(s)</div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">Vinyl numbers or stencil and paint (optional) </div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
</div>
<ul style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
<li>Spray painted the pots. (3 coats). Once dried, I added a vinyl number to each pot. You could also stencil something on each pot. Or just leave it plain too &#8211; it&#8217;s up to you.</li>
</ul>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S7TcNTmxX-I/AAAAAAAAJ1c/TlKAuifuhQE/s1600/burlap+flowered+topiary+trees+029.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img decoding="async" border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S7TcNTmxX-I/AAAAAAAAJ1c/TlKAuifuhQE/s320/burlap+flowered+topiary+trees+029.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
</div>
<ul style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
<li>Cover the balls in burlap. I cut a 3 inch strip of burlap. Wrapped it around the ball to see how long to make it. Cut it to that length. Attached it with hot glue. <b style="color: #e69138;">TIP: This is a great way to NOT burn your fingers. Get a few straight pins that you don&#8217;t mind ruining. After you apply the hot glue, stick a straight pin in the ball and let it cool. It helps attach the burlap to the ball so well!&nbsp;</b></li>
</ul>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S7TcYnafX9I/AAAAAAAAJ1k/dBDb0yALXwI/s1600/burlap+flowered+topiary+trees+027.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img decoding="async" border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S7TcYnafX9I/AAAAAAAAJ1k/dBDb0yALXwI/s320/burlap+flowered+topiary+trees+027.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
</div>
<ul style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
<li>I made little cuts in the sides of the burlap. Run a line of hot glue inside the outer edge of the burlap strip. Then press the edges down, the little slits will help the burlap conform to the ball shape without wrinkles. Make an oval section of burlap to cover up each end of the ball.</li>
</ul>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S7TclAT0OMI/AAAAAAAAJ1s/Zc1DRuoFPpE/s1600/burlap+flowered+topiary+trees+028.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img decoding="async" border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S7TclAT0OMI/AAAAAAAAJ1s/Zc1DRuoFPpE/s320/burlap+flowered+topiary+trees+028.jpg" /></a><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S7TctQGQXfI/AAAAAAAAJ10/Ey5Ig4WwGI4/s1600/burlap+flowered+topiary+trees+025.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img decoding="async" border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S7TctQGQXfI/AAAAAAAAJ10/Ey5Ig4WwGI4/s320/burlap+flowered+topiary+trees+025.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
</div>
<ul style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
<li>Once the ball(s) are covered in burlap, set them aside and start making the flowers. Cut your fabric scraps &#8212; mine were 2 inches wide by 20 inches long. I made 14 flowers per topiary. Then make a long, running stitch down the middle of each strip with your machine, or by hand. Then gather the thread at one end of each strip and pull to gather the material. I gathered all of the strips at the same time.</li>
</ul>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S7Tc3Fma0vI/AAAAAAAAJ18/EqIhf66rfv0/s1600/burlap+flowered+topiary+trees+017.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img decoding="async" border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S7Tc3Fma0vI/AAAAAAAAJ18/EqIhf66rfv0/s320/burlap+flowered+topiary+trees+017.jpg" /></a><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S7Tc_I9yy3I/AAAAAAAAJ2E/dR_fzcZwJYg/s1600/burlap+flowered+topiary+trees+020.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img decoding="async" border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S7Tc_I9yy3I/AAAAAAAAJ2E/dR_fzcZwJYg/s320/burlap+flowered+topiary+trees+020.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S7TdHZGHpEI/AAAAAAAAJ2M/4YfRkACssXU/s1600/burlap+flowered+topiary+trees+018.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img decoding="async" border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S7TdHZGHpEI/AAAAAAAAJ2M/4YfRkACssXU/s320/burlap+flowered+topiary+trees+018.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
</div>
<ul style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
<li>Once the strips are gathered, make them into flowers. Take one end and fold it around in a circular motion until you have made a circle, make the circle a little bigger each time it goes around. It should go around about three times. Secure with a pin.</li>
</ul>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S7TdR3PRUEI/AAAAAAAAJ2U/tO1Y-IEDeSQ/s1600/burlap+flowered+topiary+trees+022.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img decoding="async" border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S7TdR3PRUEI/AAAAAAAAJ2U/tO1Y-IEDeSQ/s320/burlap+flowered+topiary+trees+022.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
</div>
<ul style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
<li>You don&#8217;t have to use a machine to do this craft. If you don&#8217;t want to use a machine, skip the gathering step and move right on to the this step &#8212; You can make the flower using hot glue. Take one end of the strip make a little fold to the side and add a dab of hot glue, keep doing this, going in a circular motion and gathering your material as you hot glue it. This may take some time and patience.&nbsp;</li>
</ul>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S7TdZJELqtI/AAAAAAAAJ2c/3FLjrnlWTlQ/s1600/burlap+flowered+topiary+trees+023.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img decoding="async" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S7TdZJELqtI/AAAAAAAAJ2c/3FLjrnlWTlQ/s320/burlap+flowered+topiary+trees+023.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
</div>
<ul style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
<li>Once you have made your flowers, hot glue them together. I flipped each flower over and added hot glue from the back, putting a dab under each layer of material until it keeps it shape. Remove the pins once cooled.&nbsp;</li>
</ul>
<ul style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
<li>Cut out some circles out of scrapbook paper. I used three different papers. I used a 1/2 inch punch. Then put a jeweled scrapbook brad through each circle.&nbsp;</li>
</ul>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S7Tdi72p6lI/AAAAAAAAJ2k/13fA-0SBvOo/s1600/burlap+flowered+topiary+trees+026.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img decoding="async" border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S7Tdi72p6lI/AAAAAAAAJ2k/13fA-0SBvOo/s320/burlap+flowered+topiary+trees+026.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
</div>
<ul style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
<li>Now attach the flowers onto the burlap balls. I used straight pins to arrange them on the ball ahead of time. Space the flowers out so that the burlap shows though the middle. Then I dabbed some Gorilla Glue onto the back of each flower. I then put a straight pin back in the middle of the flower to hold the flower on to the ball until the glue dried. Once the glue dried, then I pulled the pins out.</li>
</ul>
<div style="text-align: center;"><img decoding="async" alt="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/156d1efe-de63-4a1e-8ea0-c982518ec19c_300.jpg" src="https://tatertotsandjello.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/156d1efe-de63-4a1e-8ea0-c982518ec19c_300.jpg" /> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S7Td8IB3-EI/AAAAAAAAJ2s/mZdpBlkj6Nw/s1600/burlap+flowered+topiary+trees+009.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img decoding="async" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S7Td8IB3-EI/AAAAAAAAJ2s/mZdpBlkj6Nw/s320/burlap+flowered+topiary+trees+009.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
</div>
<ul style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
<li>Now attach the scrapbook paper to the center of each flower with a dab of hot glue. Hold until the glue cools.</li>
<li>I put a little block of flower arranging foam in the bottom of each pot. I put a little Gorilla Glue in the bottom. Then I took a wood dowel and stuck it in the bottom of the burlap/flower ball and then through the center of the pot.&nbsp;</li>
</ul>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: Verdana,sans-serif; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S7TewvjSYUI/AAAAAAAAJ20/TJHg4t6re-o/s1600/burlap+flowered+topiary+trees+039.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_NgH-mlTcwHE/S7TewvjSYUI/AAAAAAAAJ20/TJHg4t6re-o/s320/burlap+flowered+topiary+trees+039.jpg" width="214" /></a></div>
<div style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
</div>
<ul style="font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;">
<li>Then I wrapped the dowel in ribbon.</li>
<li>Finally I put hot glued a layer of moss over the top of flower arranging foam.</li>
</ul>
