Easy Black and White Halloween Topiary

This is one of my very favorite Halloween projects I’ve made. Simple foam pumpkins are spray painted black and white. Then we drilled holes through the bottom at different angles and put a rod inside! I still have the topiary and I plan on using it this year at our new #1891AvenuesCottage!

Black and White Fall Pillows

I love making pillow covers! It’s such an inexpensive way to change up the look of a room. And using pillow covers makes sense because they are so easy to store. Just use the pillow insert over and over and store the pillow covers flat in a plastic bin!

One of my favorite spaces to decorate is our dining room. I love creating a Halloween plate wall and using black and white elements to celebrate Autumn.

Back-to-School 

Black & White Dinner Party Ideas 

I am always sad to see the end of the summer but I love fall too! And this year it’s kind of exciting because we are in our new house and both of my kids are starting at new schools near our home.

Ella’s school is a brand-new charter school that focuses on a STEM curriculum and she couldn’t wait to start.

To celebrate I wanted to make a special dinner for her and invite her favorite people over! We were able to use the new dining room for the first time.

I was using it as an office but it was fun to have a special space to have everyone over.

I asked Ella what her favorite meal would be and she said Angel Chicken. So that’s what we had. Plus Asparagus Bacon Croissants, Shrimp Linguine, Salad and an Apple Tart. Yum! I will be sharing those recipes soon!

Back-to-School 

Black & White Party Ideas 

I wanted a black and white theme for the dinner. For some reason I back to school makes me think of black and white. I put Hannah in charge of place cards and she used some fun American Crafts cards, bows, washi tape and hand drew the names. Thanks Hannah!

We also made a simple centerpiece with a striped black and burlap runner and a little garland. I found the pieces for the garland at Target’s Dollar Spot Section and I used some gold letters from my Pebbles Home+Made Line.

Back-to-School 

Black & White Party Ideas 

Instead of using hot pads for the main dishes I used wooden clipboards I also found at the Dollar Spot. But they would also be fun to use instead of placemats – just put the plate right on top of the clipboard.

For placemats I used 12×12 scrapbook paper that is lined to look like notebook paper. It looks very back-to-schoolish.

Here’s an easy decorating idea – clipboards!! You can use them all year round, they are easy to switch out and there are so many different styles and sizes to choose from. Plus I am sharing Valentine Black and White Clipboard Printables!

These clipboards are from Ikea. I love that they are different sizes, plus they have stands in the back so you can stand them up like picture frames on a mantel or shelf. I have also found cute clipboards in the Target Dollar Spot section, at Homegoods and I have the cutest acrylic and gold clipboards in my Pebbles Home+Made collection!

I’ve included these printables in a few different sizes. I love printing on a large scale with my Canon PIXMA Crafting Printer and this large Ikea clipboard is the perfect size for that large-scale printer which was perfect for this project.

I love Christmas but I also love putting all of the Christmas things away. This year I love black and white for winter. And I have a couple of big floating shelves in my family room at the 1905 cottage that are fun to decorate. So I pulled out all of my black and white things and I love the way everything looks for Winter. Black and white is a fresh way to decorate for the new year. Here are some ways to style shelves and accessorize using black and white!

I found this little rhinoceros at Hobby Lobby for $6. Isn’t it cute?? Here are some more easy ways to decorate with black and white for winter:

The focal point of the shelves is this fun sign I got at the Pinners Conference from Salted Bison. I also added white candlesticks that I’ve had for a few years from Ikea. And some framed scrapbook paper from my Cottage Living line through Pebbles. I think the key to styling shelves is layering and keeping everything simple. So I kept the theme basically black and white and then added a few wood and gold accents. I also brought in some green with greenery in Ikea planters. I think the green brings some warmth to the overall look and symbolizes the new year. The gold on the shelves goes along with the gold chandelier that I made a couple of years ago for my bedroom redo at my old house.

And I brought in some pillow from my Black and White Office for the couch. I love switching things up!! I may have a bit of a pillow obsession LOL.

I also love how the black and white theme goes along with my Black and White Valentine’s Day Mantel.

And also, if you like black and white decor, the black and white snowflake blocks I made last year would be perfect too!

And it all goes along with my Black and White Snowflake porch! I love a theme haha!!

I’ve fallen in love with decorating for Valentine’s Day over the past few years. There’s just something warm and cheery about pretty hearts! And this year I thought it would be fun to do a black and white color theme – with a little gold! Black, White and Gold Valentine’s Day Mantel.

I found this pretty marquee light at Michaels and I added some gold foil dotted paper from my new Pebbles Everyday Line. I also added this extra-wide scallop washi tape from my new line too to add a little bling!

I mounted the marquee light on black and white paper inside the same frame that holds my “Bright” word of the year. So when Valentine’s Day is over I can display it again.

I added these pretty gold-dipped lights from Target for some shine. And I love this wood banner I found in Target’s Dollar Spot. Isn’t it cute?? $3

This Black and White Valentine Mantel goes along with my black and white decor in the 1905 Cottage’s family room. I styled some shelves that match. And I will show you those next week.

We are so happy at the cottage. And so blessed.

I printed the Be Bright printable in a large size with my  Canon PIXMA iP8720 Crafting Printer. I love being able to print large sizes for my home!

I think the black and white colors are fresh and clean to welcome a new year. I’ve found that having a Word of the Year gives me purpose for the year and is more effective for me than resolutions. It’s really fun to think about goals I would like to achieve for the year and what work would enable those goals to be met.

And I have a bit of a buffalo check obsession right now. So I thought it would be fun to put my word on the buffalo plaid check background. I also created two coordinating words that kind of support my main word too. TRUE and YOU. And I’ve included those free printables below as well.

Here’s how I made this easy Inspirational Banner:

I used “fancy” wood pennants from The Wood Connection.

I painted the pennants and then attached Project Life cards from the new Home+Made Project Life kit.

I used glue dots to attach the cards to the wood pennants.

I wanted to add a little shine to the project so I tied the pennants together with gold leather ribbon.

And I embellished them with paper flowers.

It’s a super easy project. I want to make one for Halloween!!

One of my favorite design trends is black and white!

Shutterfly challenged me to come up with decor to match that trend — and I’m sharing it with you, along with free printables!

I created some patterns and uploaded them onto Shutterfly canvases.

And also had the patterns and a saying printed on Shutterfly Curved Glass Prints. 

And here are the printables!

These are sized for printing at a commercial photo/decor printing company like Shutterfly, so they are very large JPG files. If you print these at home, you may need to resize or crop to fit your needs.

Here are the four patterns for the printable canvases. Just right-click each image or link and choose “save as” to download to your computer.

I used these same files for the patterns on the curved glass.
