Living in the South, nothing says summer like seersucker! It’s always been one of my all time favorite fabrics.

Normally I sew clothing from seersucker, but I thought it would be fun to try out making a clutch out of seersucker fabric. To keep it all from being too “sweet” I added a few touches of leather.

Even though it’s still chilly outside, I’m going to start carrying my clutch as a reminder that warmer weather is not far away.

If you want to make one you’ll need:

2 pieces of seersucker fabric cut to 9” x 12″

1 piece of seersucker cut to 3” x 16”

2 pieces of Shape Flex interfacing cut to 9” x 12”

2 pieces of fabric for the lining cut to 9” x 12”

2 pieces of fusible fleece interfacing cut to 9” x 12”

2 pieces of leather cut to 4” x 4”

2 pieces of leather cut to 1” x 1 1/2”

Leather Needle

Extra Strong Thread

Regular Thread

9” Metal Zipper

Glue Stick

Zipper Foot for Sewing Machine

Begin by cutting your 4” x 4” leather squares in half on the diagonal. To cut leather I use a rotary cutter dedicated to only cutting leather.

Press the shape flex to the wrong side of the seersucker fabrics

Press the fusible fleece to the wrong side of the lining fabrics

Using a glue stick, apply a bit of glue to the wrong side of the leather triangles. Attach one triangle to each bottom corner of the clutch. Use binding clips to hold the leather in place.

Put the leather needle in your machine

Thread the top thread with extra strong thread (you can leave the bobbin thread as is)

Set your stitch length to 4

Going slowly, sew the leather across the diagonal.

Repeat for the other side of the clutch.

Apply a bit of glue to the back of the 2 1″ x 1 1/2” pieces of leather. Using binding clips, clip to the ends of the zipper. Stitch the leather to the ends of the zipper, close to the zipper.

Put the regular needle back in your machine and switch the thread back out.

Fold the 3” x 16” piece of fabric in half lengthwise with right sides together. Sew. Turn right side out and press with the seam in the center of the tube of fabric.

Fold the fabric in half again.

Top stitch down each side of the fabric.

Cut the finished piece to 13″ long.

Pin to the left side of the clutch front 3 1/2” down from the top.

Trim the leather ends of your zipper down to 1” long.

Center the zipper on the clutch front piece. Pin the zipper to the clutch front piece with the RIGHT side of the zipper facing the RIGHT side of the clutch.

Pin the RIGHT side of the lining to the WRONG side of the zipper.

Attach a zipper foot to your sewing machine. Stitch this seam.

Repeat for the other side of the zipper.

After you’ve sewn the clutch front and back to the zipper, press the seams well away from the zipper. Top stitch along both sides of the zipper.

UNZIP the zipper.

Pin the two clutch outside pieces together, right sides together. Pin the two lining pieces right sides together. Stitch around the perimeter of the clutch using a 1/2” seam allowance. Leave a 4” opening in the lining piece to turn the clutch right side out.

Turn right side out. Press well. Hand stitch the opening in the lining closed.

TT&J Readers, this is Angelina from JoJo and Eloise. I am so absolutely THRILLED to be here with you today.

I am even more THRILLED to be one of the newest members of the TT&J’s contributing team. I mean Seriously, how Amazing is this years line up. Super Talented, RIGHT!?!?

Spring is Rapidly approaching and I couldn’t be happier. Everything about this time of year makes me HAPPY! The colors alone make me want to SING!

Spring time tends to bring LOTS of special occasions, like Weddings, Parties, Reunions, Vacations and Family Portraits. The Temperature, Colors and Fresh Blooms make a perfect backdrop for all those Parties.

I thought I would share how to make those events a little bit more Special. With this Pom Pom Sash or Head Wrap.

It is SUPER easy and makes quite the statement piece.

First start out by choosing your Colors. I wanted colors that represented Spring to me. So I went with Martha Stewart and Bernat Yarns. You can use any color combination that suite your particular Style or Occasion.

Making Pom Poms is something I never tire of, so this was the FUN part. There are different ways you can go about making your Pom Poms. The above picture shows how you can wrap your yarn around a Fork and use a separate piece of Yarn to tie a not in the center and slip your yarn off your fork. The more Yarn you use the Fatter and Fuller your Pom Pom will be.

Pictured Below: Cut a small strip of yarn about 5 inches long. Place it in between your fingers. Begin wrapping your yarn around your fingers ( 2, 3, or 4 fingers ). The more yarn you wrap will determine the fullness of your, Pom Pom. Using your separate strip of yarn, that you cut earlier, take it and tie a knot in the center of your Pom Pom. (make sure it’s tied tightly and secure ) Slip it off your fingers and Cut the Loops. Be sure NOT to cut your CENTER knot, that is what’s holding your Pom Pom together. Once you are done cutting all your loops open, give your Pom Pom a Trim and Fluff.

Continue making Different Colored and different size Pom Poms.

If you prefer a more Exact method you can always purchase a Pom Pom maker.

Using some felt cut out the shape and size desired for your Sash. Using a Hot Glue Gun, begin gluing your Pom Poms down. On the back side I cut a small Square like shape in the same size of my sash. I hot glued the TOP and Bottom, leaving the sides open, making a belt loop of sorts. Using some Satin Ribbon run it through and cutting it to the desired length needed.

And, that’s it folks! Your DONE!!

So Easy Peasy and yet so ABSOLUTELY, STUNNING and SWEET!

This Pom Pom sash will dress up any Spring outfit and will be such a Statement piece for your parties or portraits.

It’s also so PERFECT for your Spring Wedding!

Put it on the Bride, share them with the Brides Maids or dress up the Flower Girls.

Make them for those upcoming Family Portraits.

Or just have FUN and throw it on top of your head and go to town!

Either way your sure to turn heads, with this Pom Pom Adorableness!

So go ahead, get that yarn out and start making some Pom Poms.

Turn them into a Sash or Head Wrap and add some Life to your SPRING TIME fun

1. You will need some felt {I found mine at Hobby Lobby for .25/sheet} and some hair clips.

2. I made a template of a leaf shape in two different sizes.

3. Cut out the shapes. I cut out 6 leaves of each of the two sizes.

4. Then I folded each leaf in half and then sewed a straight stitch half way up each of the leaves down to the stem part of the template.

5. Do this with all of the leaves — the larger and smaller leaves. Then cut out a 5 inch circle out of the same felt.

6. Glue the leaves onto the circle, overlapping each leaf over the edge of the following one.

7. Do the same thing with the second layer of leaves. Then hot glue a fabric-covered button or brad to the center of the flower.

8. Cut a rectangle of felt that is the same length as the clip. Put the felt through the middle of the clip. Then hot glue the clip with the felt attached on to the circle on the bottom of the flower.

We started our store — June at the start of this year and we are so excited to be on Tatertots and Jello to share a tutorial with you and to host a give away!

Tutorial!!

First find a headband, pick out some cute fabric, and get three fun, complementing buttons.

Then cut three circles about 4 inches in diameter. Cut three smaller circles that are about 1.5 inches in diameter.

Next you’re going to sew the larger circles into flowers. Weave your needle and thread in and out around the edge of the circle. After you have gone all the way around the circle pull the thread tight so it makes a little bag. Then flatten it out so it becomes a flower!

Now you are going to sew on your button. Sew it right in the middle and knot it at the back of the flower. Go through the button a few times for extra reinforcement.

Next you are going to glue the flowers to the headband. Use a hot glue gun and glue a line on the back of your first flower. Press it on to the top of the headband off to one side. Then repeat this with your other two flowers.

Now take the smaller circles you cut out at the beginning and hot glue them to the back of the flowers so the headband is in between the fabrics. Repeat this with all three smaller circles.

And tada! You now have an adorable new headband!

Hi there! I’m Kate from Oh Write, and it’s a delightful day for me. I am thrilled to be a guest here at Jen’s place. Since this is a debut of sorts for me (it’s my first time ‘away’ from my blog home!), I wanted to share something fabulous. First impressions can only happen once, you know?

Have you seen this little beauty? I fell in love the last time I was perusing the racks at J.Crew. I primarily go in there to be inspired these days. For $18, you can take one of these lovelies home with you. It comes in three colors, all of which I’d love to own. Today, we’re going to focus on golden topaz. I’m loving this color for autumn, and I had everything on hand to make one, which made this free to me! (If you have to buy any or all of the materials, you will still come out way ahead in the money department! Look for fabrics like these in bargain bins, or in the clearance section. I found all of my fabrics in the Red Tag section at JoAnn. Just 1/4 yard of each fabric will keep you stocked for a long time!)

So, want to make one? It’s easy.

Here’s what you’ll need:

• A collection of fabrics in the color-family of your choice. (I used some linen, satin, chiffon and tulle)
• DMC thread in corresponding colors.
• A pin-back or alligator clip
• *not shown: a couple of pieces of wool felt, or some other heavier fabric to offer some stability, need and thread, candle or lighter

1. Begin by cutting out three large petals from a satin-like material. (***When you’re shopping for the fabric, make sure it’s not flammable. Most synthetic materials work nicely.) These don’t need to be exact, as the edges will be singed. Mine were approximately 4 in. by 3.5 in. (This will make a finished flower that’s about 5 in. across.)

2. Carefully hold the edges of the petals over a flame until they are lightly singed.

Your finished petals will look like this:

3. Cut out 2 circles of felt (appx. 2 in. diameter) to serve as the backing for your pin.

4. Cut out 5 smaller petals from some sort of cotton or linen material (When you’re shopping, look for something that wrinkles easily). Mine are less than 2 in. wide and about 3 in. long.

5. Scrunch the petals into little balls to make them wrinkly.

See how nice and worn they look? That’s what you want!

6. Cut 2 longer, skinny pieces of a lighter-colored satin. (About 1.5 in. wide) I made one longer than the other for a little added dimension. Singe the edges over a flame.

7. Cut a couple of long, skinny pieces of tulle.

8. Knot them to create some loops. (The loop on the left is 4 in. long and the one on the right has 2 loops, each about 2 in. long.)

9. Cut 4 longer ovals from chiffon-like material. Mine were about 2 in. wide and between 3.5 and 5 in. long. These don’t need to be perfect!

Here’s what you should have so far:
*We haven’t done anything with the DMC thread yet…but it’s there in the picture!

10. Thread a needle with a single strand of DMC, doubled over and knotted.

11. Overlap the petals, and secure them to one of the felt circles.

The flower is starting to take shape!

At this point, determine which side will be ‘up’. This will help you in the design of the flower.

12. Fold the crinkled petals to give them a bit of dimension, and sew them to the pin.

It’s hard to tell in this picture, but 3 of my petals are folded before they were sewn on. (The top one and the bottom two) *Note: my flower is still facing ‘up’. All pictures from here on will show the flower as it will look while it’s being worn.

13. Next, sew the tulle loops on. Feel free to arrange them to your liking. I wanted the longer one to be towards the top, so this is how I sewed mine!

14. Before attaching the chiffon, arrange them like this, overlapping each other.

15. Now, grab them in the middle like this…

…and tie a piece of DMC around them all. Secure it tightly with a knot. This will make it easier to stitch these petals to the flower.
16. Sorry, no picture! Sew the chiffon petals to the rest of the flower. I secured it on either side of the knot.

17. Twist each of the lighter satin petals like this:

18. Sew the lighter satin petals on, overlapping them. At this point you may want to twist and arrange some of the petals so the flower looks just right to you. If needed, use a small stitch to tack down places that aren’t staying put.

19. Cut several short pieces of DMC in 2 or 3 shades of your color. My pieces were between 1 and 2.5 in. long. Knot the end of each piece, and then tie them into groups.
20. Sew the groups of thread between some of your petals. I also added a couple of little ribbons. Be creative, and use whatever looks right to you!

21. Take the second piece of wool felt, and sew on your pin or clip. After the clip is secure, sew the circle over top of the other circle to hide all the messy stitching. (***Make sure you situate your pin in the correct place for your flower to face the direction you’ve chosen once you are wearing it!)

22. Now the back of the pin will look like this:

Ta Da!
Fun, right? I am thrilled for this addition to my accessory collection. Let me know if you venture out to make your own…I’d love to see other colors and variations!
