yikes, m go easy. I think it would have been better to rant in an email. And what about the bird cages? you should have given props that that is VERY Chinese!!!! A wonderful job with the room, even if the cultural items were incorrectly labeled. Hugs!!!!

I came to this post via the feature on nester....While I absolutely believe that you created a fun and loving decor for your daughter, I find it more than irritating that this room could be labeled "chinese".

Kimonos? Japanese
Cherry blossoms? Japanese
And no, Chinese and Japanese are not "the same" or "similar". (That would be like saying England and the US are the same)

Perhaps you should call this an asian inspired room?

I realize that your daughter is still quite young and hasn't encounter world studies at school, and I'm certainly not objecting to your design choices. However incorrect labeling and poor research are part of how stereotypes are propagated. In the blogosphere, we make such a big deal about acknowledging where we obtain pictures and design inspiration. Cultural inspiration deserves the same level of acknowledgment.
