Kimba’s DIY Day: My Kitchen Redo
October 27, 2009
I’m pretty much done with my kitchen redo. There are a couple of projects that I still have to do, but they will have to wait. Thanks for all of your nice comments about my burlap magnet boards. I have been working on more this weekend and I can’t wait to show them to you. I found some different ways to embellish them and I think they turned out pretty cute.
When we moved into our home the kitchen looked like this:
We’ve done a few things over the time we’ve lived here like put in granite counters, a tile backsplash, new appliances and paint. This fall I redid the barstools — painted, mod podged the seats and added vinyl numbers. They looked like this before:
Then I made the burlap curtains. This was the before:
Then I made some burlap tassels and hung them at the end of the curtain rods.
We switched the old light out for this really cool one that my mom found in her attic. It has great thick glass globes. It really adds a lot of character to the room.
I ordered these benches from a catalog company online with a 20% off coupon that I saved. I had a upholsterer build a middle bench to fit our oddly shaped corner. One of the benches has a cushion that pops up and I can keep my tablecloths and placemats underneath the seat!
This was what was in the space before:
I made a burlap magnet board to fit on this skinny wall. Since my fridge isn’t magnetic this is a good place for me to keep wedding invitations, postcards and notes to myself of things I need to do.
I painted this door with chalkboard paint this summer and the kids love writing messages to each other. I added a cute black and white knob to tie into the room’s color scheme.
The runner that I wanted to get for the kitchen was over $60 at Ballard Designs so I found this runner by the foot at Home Depot. It was $2.50 a foot. I finished off the edges by using an adhesive ribbon on each end. So instead of paying $60+ and shipping, I paid $15. I bought a couple of feet extra to make a rug by the door that goes to the backyard.
I made a Family Rules Canvas to hang in my kitchen nook, which I found at The Pleated Poppy. So great!
My sister made this silhouette board for my birthday. I love it!
I added a light from Walmart for $9 to add a little warm glow to my desk area and I’m done!
I am linking up wih Kimba’s DIY day! Go over and see all of the great projects – it is truly incredible!
