I was cruising down the highway the other day when I saw an old warehouse with towering piles of pallets spilling all over the back of it’s lot. It reminded me of a picture that I had in my design file from many years ago. It was a project where you could turn an old pallet into a great industrial coffee table by painting the pallet, adding a glass top and big casters to the bottom.
I looked and looked but couldn’t find that picture and I don’t think it’s anywhere on the internet. But it did get me thinking about other ideas for projects. What great, inexpensive projects could be made using old wooden pallets!
- Here’s the closest thing that I could find to that idea:
- Another great space-saving idea:

Wow great stuff, my dad is a farmer and has loads of these knocking around. I'm going to go back to the farm and put some of your ideas into practise.

For anyone wanting a garden picnic table made of pallet wood, here's how we build one for our back yard:

It's cheap, sturdy and, yeah, a bit splintery.
One thing to consider about pallet projects is that pallets are designed to be reused. Some pallets will be used thousands of times in their lifetimes. The best thing that a pallet can be used as is another pallet, ideally.
That isn't to say I don't love these ideas. I actually want to build a pallet table myself. I just want to dispel the belief that we "need to find something to do with all of these pallets" That line of thinking is like building a chair out of a stolen shopping cart because you see them everywhere. Most pallets are owned by someone and there are businesses that do nothing else than fixing broken pallets.
That said, good post. You had some pallet projects in there I haven't seen yet!
