Creative Fridays: Summer Dollar Store Craft

Today is the last day of school – yay!!! And to celebrate, I made a Summer craft for my mantle.
I saw this idea at the cute, Jenni at A Nest To Keep. She made a “Spring” to put on her mantle. Hers turned out so cute!

I decided to use scrapbook paper to add some pizazz and color to the project.
But if you like a simpler, shabby look, the plain letters with the simple frames look great!
I found the frames at the dollar store. I was looking for some oval or round frames, but mine didn’t have any. {I think it would be cuter with some round or oval frames.} It would also be cute to spray paint the frames off-white and then stain them so they look old. I might have to try that next.

++++

I printed some different fonts off of my computer. I experimented until I found ones I liked and in the right size. You need to use big fonts, mine are between 350 – 500 in size.
I printed the letters off and then cut them out. If you want to use plain paper, you can print the letters right onto the paper you want to use.

After printing the letters out, I cut the scrapbook paper to the size of the frame and then used a glue stick to attach the letter to the paper.

Very easy. Plus, when the season change, I can change out the scrapbook paper and letters. So in the Fall I can do Autumn, then Winter or even my last name. Fun, easy, thrifty project.

{first trip to the pool!}
Have a Creative Day and a Wonderful Weekend!
XOXO

  1. I just found your blog, this post, via Keen Inspirations' site (another I just discovered tonight) and I have to say I am a fan! I love this idea and for sure will do this project myself. Thanks for the inspiration! :)
